Launchpad!!
Few Mac users explore this sort of thing.. but..
In Trackpad prefs, select Thumb-3-fingers for Launchpad. (4-finger grab works too. A 'soft grasp')
OK, now 4-finger grab to open Launchpad. Click-Hold an icon. They all wobble. Drag the ones you don't want to right to create a new 'page' and organise to suit.
Now 4-finger grab and if you can't see an app you want, type the first 1 or 2 letters of it's name.
Easily the best/fastest.
NB, you can organise as many separate Launchpad windows as you want. The last one viewed stays in place until you change it. So... you can set up different Launchpad windows for different work/play envirnoments.
