Never forget this: Working people outnumber the billionaires and CEOs by a huge margin. If we stand in solidarity, we will win.
@rbreich Yeah, but, Bob, they own almost all the politicians. We don't get to make the laws directly, not matter how many of us stand together

@OlDude82 This is a problem that solves itself: elect new politicians. Once that aren't afraid to say the word "union," or to be clear and direct about what they stand for. Then hold them accountable when their courage fails them. Don't let them veer into the safe waters of mealy-mouthed moderation when they start to think they need to ask permission from centrists to get things done, despite record mandates from the left. Insist they be bold.

@rbreich
I would like to believe that's true, but until we have a sensible SCOTUS and Congresspeople who don't take bribes to keep their seats, I don't see how anything can change. As long as corporations are people...
@rbreich all we have to do is the same thing together at the same time. Call in sick, put your hands in your pockets, or sit down. We just have to do it together
@rbreich Robespierre was onto something. 🔪
@rbreich Some of us do have to sit, but point taken otherwise.

@rbreich

considering their degree of top-down control over too many aspects of our current subsistence supply chains, I feel some forethought and planning is called for. or at the very least a sense of what it entails for us, as individuals, families, and communities, to throw off such a vast technological yoke. Not saying no!

@rbreich What if I'm a person working to become a CEO and billionaire?

AFIK, the best way to bring down the unemployment rate is to employ people, and that's kinda hard to do if I'm working at Walmart (I don't work at WM, but you get my drift).

@rbreich The problem is getting people to stand up for what they deserve. I see this happening in some areas (eg Hollywood, UPS), not not nearly enough
@rbreich what is the ratio of Billionaires to poor people?( BTP)
Does the Economist publish that economic indicator?
Do you think they want us to know?
Do you think that sort of research would be banned in Texas or Florida?
@rbreich It is time to sick out, protest, strike and walk out. I know it’s hard, I know it’s scary, I know it involves risk, but if enough of us do it, we can’t all be fired. We will gain the upper hand. It’s the only way. We can either sacrifice now, or sacrifice everything later, and it appears later is here. https://geoffreydeihl.substack.com/p/the-economy-is-going-to-break

Better Now Than Later

Sane Thoughts for Insane Times
@rbreich It never made sense to me why the working class, the larger of the two classes, doesn't simply eat the rich.
@rbreich meanwhile billionaires:
Never forget, we are part of the 1% by population, but account for nearly 66% of the total wealth. If that's not winning, I'm not sure what is.

@rbreich
Better yet, we could build a new democracy!

#tiereddemocraticgovernance

@rbreich

To use basic #Vulcan logic:

The good of the many workers always outweighs the "needs" of the few greedy corporation owners and CEOs.

Or, as Wil Wheaton put it, the needs of the many outweighs the greed of the few

@rbreich

@AnneTheWriter1 @rbreich What about the case of a 51% attack?
@rbreich automation solves this
@rbreich Perhaps, but as long as they own the Supreme Court our road will be a hard road indeed.
@rbreich Half of those working people will side with the billionaires just to own the libs.

@rbreich And their deep pockets will fight us ever step of the way.

Through adversity to a better world

@rbreich
Wait they won't just spoon feed people what they need them to hear, as they have done for about 400 ish years. Turning them against each other in their socioeconomic hamster cages while they watch and place bets on who gets what 🤔🤔🤔
My what a novel solution....
@rbreich If we all eat a small bite it won't be that hard to get rid of them.

@rbreich and this is how the billionaires are currently winning, by splitting the working classes down the guts and convincing half of them that the other half are demons. You’re correct, but I don’t see many reaching across the blue and red aisle any time soon, unfortunately

Agreed. Always appreciate your insight and encouragement, Mr. Reich!
@rbreich That's true but, the wealthy have loyal Republicans who have cobbled together a voting base by selling them on the idea that they care about issues like abortion to get the evangelicals. 2nd Amendment to get the gun nuts, Illegals coming to take American jobs to get voters with job insecurity, Muslims who will attack America to get well let's face plain Ole fear mongering and racists. And of course a far right majority Supreme Court who prop up voter suppression.
