Do Medium Pubs Enhance Readerships

On Medium, I can publish two ways. First I can publish independently and my article goes immediately--without much hassle.

Second I can publish under a pub, which means my work is reviewed before it goes out. Usually 1-2 days later. Often it is rejected.

But pubs supposedly find readers.

So are pubs better than independent publishing?
