There is no point in even having the #Reddit IPO now. The CEO has been getting publicly owned all week.
@developerjustin yep, new CEO needed. I was just starting to get into reddit after leaving Twitter thanks to Musk’s antics, I hadn’t even got into the third party Reddit app ecosystem yet, and now I’m leaving there too. I guess Mastodon will have to satisfy my desire to be on social media. A pity, cause Reddit was such a useful product.
@SimonCHulse @developerjustin Reddit is still useful. There are subreddits on just about any topic. Still a great place to find books to read, help with games, or other specific topics.
@LMNOChris @SimonCHulse @developerjustin Until the day you get banned from a subreddit because the mods changed the posting/commenting rules without telling anyone.
@roadskater @LMNOChris @developerjustin or when someone downvotes your post before anyone has upvoted it so you don’t even see any replies.

@LMNOChris just steer away from the large political and ultra religious subs. Also the shitposters from meme subs and other non niche ones.

Basically the smaller and the more specific the sub is. The better. Except r/askhistorians. They're large and yet still so good.

@SimonCHulse @developerjustin I had downloaded Mastadon originally as a curiosity when the Musk takeover happened at Twitter. I wasn’t impressed with it at the time because I had no clue what server to join and Reddit was already my go to. I am now coming back to Mastadon after hearing there is a default server.
@flta @developerjustin fair enough. It can be confusing at first, but the great thing is that you can follow anyone posting on any other fediverse site, anything based upon the ActivityPub system, which includes Mastodon, but also many others.
@flta @SimonCHulse @developerjustin
Basically my situation as well.
Kindof been hopping around online now as imo a bunch of previously popular social medias are going downhill.
@kk5dire @flta @developerjustin little known fact: media is the plural of “medium”, so “social media” is already the plural form ;)
@kk5dire @flta @developerjustin not to be “that guy” just trying to be helpful ;)
@SimonCHulse @flta @developerjustin
😭 Well, you learn something new everyday
@kk5dire @flta @developerjustin so technically Facebook is an example of a “Social Medium.”

@SimonCHulse @developerjustin agreed. The delusion fusion is strong at Reddit HQ. For a platform that is almost entirely driven by user-generated content to be so hostile to 3rd-party user experiences would only even remotely make sense if they knew that 1st-party experiences still dominate over 3rd-party apps.

Reddit CEO Huffman's shallow 'AMA' is rather telling

reddit
@developerjustin So how exactly will the Reddit prospectus look like? Hi. Give us money we are dicks….
@developerjustin seriously, how do you spin this news for potential investors?
@developerjustin I’m thinking it’s all a setup for some deep pocket firm to buy them outright, privately and either allow it as it was, or kill it by claiming it a mere feature of their existing platform.

@developerjustin hey this is just the IPF Initial Public Flogging

Long way to go yet

@developerjustin Spez is terrible, until 2020 he defended n-word use across Reddit
@developerjustin genuinely can’t see how his position is tenable any longer. he’s been caught lying, then caught lying again in the sham AMA and then just left the AMA without a word. how is any investor ever going to trust a company led by such a clown

@developerjustin reddit keep surviving controversies though. which is a shame. and the administration can go suck it. i created a new sub and crossposted art to it, only to get a 2 week long ban from my own sub for infringement (on a crosspost from the original author??), and while i was banned the sub was flooded with spam which i could not remove; that got my sub banned permanently...

i only use reddit with Apollo right now but once Apollo is gone, so am I. will be deleting all my accounts.
