You can capture your memories in 3D, but your family will remember this as the time you wore that weird mask to your daughter's birthday.

@jamesthomson I'm getting big 90's camcorder vibes ๐Ÿ˜‚
@jamesthomson that's as dystopic as it gets... I mean, am I supposed to wear a mask at my child's 6th birthday? It's mad.
@jamesthomson Indeed, I like they go this route but am struggling to see the use case. What becomes easier.
@jamesthomson I've always been the weird guy at family events with a drone and FPV goggles on my head, now I might feel less weird!
@jamesthomson or if everybody on a Facetime call has a Vision Pro then it is a normal call again.

@[email protected] Sadly, the first thing that I thought of was the movie Brainstorm โ€“ especially being able to take videos of time with your kids, with glass between your eyes and them, so that you can relive a moment where you weren't fully present.

@jamesthomson if all goes to Appleโ€™s plan, everyone in the photos will be wearing weird masks too.
@jamesthomson i just keep thinking about how this presentation was 50% about this current headset, but 50% a tech demo for what will be normal in like 7 years. the only way the thing they are depicting would be acceptable is via glasses, not goggles
@jamesthomson That part felt so dystopian and itโ€™s like something bad happened to the kids. Like Minority Report meets Inception.
@jamesthomson iPhone really needs a 3D camera because I donโ€™t want to be THAT tourist.
@kirsch @jamesthomson 3D photography HAS to be coming to iPhone 15 Pro
@jamesthomson You could say the same thing about people staring at their phones in order to capture a special moment. If we get off our high horses, I think there is something deeper than a tech obsession in people trying to make a fleeting moment eternal.
@jamesthomson I was thinking the exact same thing during that segment. A lot of images of scared, crying children.
@jamesdempsey @jamesthomson We need to get these on every mall Santa.
@jamesthomson You joke, but I feel like this is a real problem โ€” until iPhones have the appropriate capture hardware, I guess
@jamesthomson $10 says youโ€™ll be able to capture spacial photos/videos with the iPhone 15 Pro #WWDC
@jamesthomson They can thank me later.
@pixel @jamesthomson Itโ€™s okay. Have the weird cousin nobody wants to talk to anyhow handle 3D capture duty. ๐Ÿ‘
@jamesthomson I said, out loud, โ€œNo one will do this.โ€
@jamesthomson But at least they will remember me? ๐Ÿ˜›
@jamesthomson Well, people happily wear those ridiculously looking airpods while being with friends, so I would imagine the same people to find it absolutely acceptable to wear ski goggles at a birthday
@jamesthomson This is how I felt about my dads camcorder. ๐Ÿ˜‚
@jamesthomson
An excellent prediction. Just because we can, doesn't mean we necessarily do.
