What macOS apps are in most need of a refresh at #WWDC23?
@BasicAppleGuy It'd be great if App Icons honored the System Settings for whether Light Mode or Dark Mode are enabled, and then have the icons change accordingly.
@JPZ That would be delightful (but doubtful).
@BasicAppleGuy Reminders!!! Love it but it also drives me crazy sometimes.
@macpsych @BasicAppleGuy If we got nothing else than natural language for the calendar on iOS, I’d be happy.
@BasicAppleGuy I’d genuinely settle for the Messages icon going from green to blue (on macOS and iOS) such is the strength of my feelings on this matter 😅
@purplelime @BasicAppleGuy This! They’re so stuck on blue bubbles being superior to green ones, yet they keep the icon green. Crazy.

@m4tty_j @BasicAppleGuy it’s a really odd decision to have ever made it green, for the reason you mention. Between Messages, Phone and FaceTime icons there’s just too much green on my homescreen already.

I feel like I remember the Messages icon having been blue at one time on macOS 🤔

@BasicAppleGuy
1. System Settings
2. Home
3. Music
4. Shortcuts
@BasicAppleGuy I want everything to adopt the Freeform jazz aesthetic
@BasicAppleGuy The awful, awful Music app is the main thing keeping me on Spotify 🎵
@BasicAppleGuy calendar, notes and system settings.
@BasicAppleGuy I would love to be able to use Safari without it breaking roughly 50% of the websites I visit
@BasicAppleGuy Would be nice if “modern” Mac apps would adopt 20+ year old Mac-isms. Like, it would be nice if Shortcuts would remember it’s sidebar width or window position/size after re-launch. It always tends to reset. Most of these apps are incomplete in that sense.
@marioguzman agree. Sometimes iOS feels more polished than macOS these days
@BasicAppleGuy It feels weird that the truly great apps are free (Weather, Notes) while the ones that I pay for monthly (Music, News) feel like they haven’t been touched in years and are just a grab bag of “stuff” added over time.
@BasicAppleGuy
- Mail (always, we need big steps in the evolution of this app)
- Reminders & Calendar
@BasicAppleGuy based on the number of albums that somehow duplicate/split themselves in Music on the Mac…Music on the Mac!
@BasicAppleGuy I would love it if Music and Podcasts synced across all devices. It’s baffling that they don’t
@BasicAppleGuy News is pretty terrible too. Sorely in need of an update
@BasicAppleGuy i use a lot of third party apps that are accessing the same data default apps do, so not sure any updates that would change my usage
@joshzepeda specifically Airmail, Fantastical, Todoist, Bear, and Cardhop
@BasicAppleGuy Mail app has been begging for attention and affection for years.
@BasicAppleGuy definitely notes (needs the Obsidian treatment) and Music (needs a lot😂)
@cmaciasjimenez little too powerusery for a basic notes app no?
@BasicAppleGuy I can see the argument. I’m not asking for obsidian in notes but at least referencing notes inside notes and a couple other things? Like Obsidian, Notion and Craft, among others. Apple has done a great job of balancing power user features hidden for the ones who want them i.e. in reminders. One can hope😂
@BasicAppleGuy I'd say Mail but at the same time after seeing what happened to System Preferences (er, Settings), I'm afraid of what that would look like. 😅

@BasicAppleGuy Reminders needs a notification overhaul because I miss reminders so often because sometimes the notification goes away after unlocking the phone.

Calendar needs to show Reminders, and have a weekly view without having to rotate the phone!

Home could do with a few widgets

@BasicAppleGuy Where’s my Stickies love
@thatvirtualboy @BasicAppleGuy stickies definitely needs a refresh 😂
@thatvirtualboy Genie comes out of a bottle to give you one wish, and Stickies is what you ask for?
@BasicAppleGuy Music. Everything else is _fine_. Not excellent, but good enough.
@BasicAppleGuy Calendars (adding a touch of Fantastical to the watch-complications) and Podcasts (improved syncing)
@BasicAppleGuy If by refresh you mean icons I'd like to see Photos, Podcasts, Home, and Shortcuts get a new look.
@BasicAppleGuy Mail, Mail and … um … how about Mail #WWDC23
@speedlimiter @BasicAppleGuy Didn't they just refresh Mail.app with iOS 13? ::shivers:: Lets hope we don't get more iOS 13…
@JPZ @BasicAppleGuy Lipstick on a pig. Needs a complete rewrite. The underlying architecture is garbage especially with Exchange-Accounts.

@speedlimiter @BasicAppleGuy Even with Apple's OWN mail accounts I see issues. Why does the “Smart" folder show I have 15 unread emails, while searching thru any and all folders I see zero unread email?

Another big issue for me is that Mail.app forces you into the next unread email if you delete or move/archive an email you're currently looking at. From the people that like to tout all of this "security”, too!

@BasicAppleGuy Music probably tops my personal list, but idk what
@BasicAppleGuy mail and calendar. So many low hanging fruits. Not even Innovation needed just taking what is there and offer it as an option at least. Contacts is poor as well.
@BasicAppleGuy contacts! Contacts is so basic and frustrating to use at times, and easily overlooked 🤓
@BasicAppleGuy 1. Music
2. Safari - I think a vertical tabs view like Arc, Orion, and Edge is needed
3. System Settings
@BasicAppleGuy Music, but I'd say more like a miracle.
@BasicAppleGuy You’re calling the Home app a macOS app? Good one! It doesn’t need a refresh, if it’s supposed to be useful, it needs *some* design that works on Mac.
@BasicAppleGuy I vote…Mail, search never works even using an iCloud account rather than 3rd party!
@BasicAppleGuy Phone (voicemail, favorites), Watch (it’s settings.app but for a watch that’s supposed to be simple), Voice memos (list view with pre-named items is not top-quality experience)
