I don't know if the increasingly open calls from right-wing influencers for violence against trans people and their allies are heartfelt or cynical ploys to draw attention, but as someone who's studied ethnic conflict and mass atrocities, I know that it doesn't matter; dangerous speech has the same effect either way.
@jayulfelder @stribley As a trans person, this has been absolutely brutal for my mental health. And what's worse is that for years, as I've tried to warn people about what the right wants to do, I've been told I'm exaggerating.

@parkermolloy @jayulfelder @stribley

As someone said to me the other day, the road to fascism is paved with people saying "You're exaggerating."

I can't even imagine what you and the rest of my trans friends are feeling. I know how deep my rage is, but also know that any multiplier I come up with won't touch what you're going through.

@parkermolloy @jayulfelder @stribley The same goes for all the women yelling that Roe was on the ballots for the last election cycles & we were told to stop being alarmists or hysterical! As haters & fascists gain footholds, they will focus on a growing list of targets because their fuel is only HATE!
@parkermolloy @jayulfelder I'm so sorry. I grew up within religious fundamentalism, know what they'd like to do and what they're capable of. I escaped in the 90s. So I believe you and hear you. They're desperate to maintain control and don't mind who they throw under the bus to ensure they do.
@parkermolloy @jayulfelder @stribley Holding you in my heart; that experience is the same for POC. Agonizing. #transisbeautiful
@parkermolloy @jayulfelder @stribley There are many people who can empathize with what Trans and LGBTQ are going through with all this hate.

@parkermolloy @jayulfelder @stribley

If you live in such a situation then you can talk about it, because you live it.

Exaggeration is often said quickly.
That's what I often hear, but never mind, I'll just carry on as I see fit.
It's funny how much intolerance there is, no matter in which direction and age.
Do not give up I always say to myself.

@parkermolloy Extremists be it left or right. America need to know about both. Both want control and see people as tool and human sheeps to manage and told what to do. Both use labels and insults if they lose an argument.
@jayulfelder "We're only kidding bro chill hahaha chill" right up to the point someone walks into a fucking pride parade with a nail bomb

@jayulfelder

Just who are these "right-wing influencers" calling for violence?

@jayulfelder *nodds in agreement*

What people allow is what will continue.

What is needed are actual #accountability and #consequences for said #StochasticTerorrism.

Because that's missing here...

Instead we have #Mainstream #MassMedia doing #PropagandaOfTheDeed for said aggressors and rewarding them with #screentime!

How the American Media Fuels A Cycle of Violence

YouTube

@jayulfelder

Yes, it doesn't matter at all if prominent figures are saying such things earnestly or not . The problem is how those words are inflaming the hate and bigotry in those who are already transphobic and makes them feel there will be approval to use violence against trans people

@jayulfelder
not trans but I grew up autistic in a world before diagnoses and help existed. At best I was the 'weird kid' at worst I was ridiculed, bullied and beaten up and never understood why other than it being firmly ingrained in me that I was 'not normal'.

That's why I will always call out Transphobia, homophobia, racism, etc. when I see it.

Being hated for something you fundamentally are that, in no way, harms anyone in any way whatsoever is fucking brutal.

No one should suffer that

@jayulfelder
Doesn't matter if others say its "fearmongering" or "unsensible".

We've seen this stuff occur in the Rwandan Genocide (although they didn't use media prior to such), and the Final Solution.

Brainwashing is the method of perpetuating genocide.

@jayulfelder if I were an American and trans, I'd be seriously considering emigration.

I do have friends and family I'm starting to worry for, as well anyone out there who is falling under the cross hairs.

@jayulfelder @ClaraListensprechen I don’t care either. It’s genocidial language.
@jayulfelder In America it seems LGBT+ people have been a major and growing target of political opportunity for right-wing (hate) organizing in recent years, like the story of how Chaya Raichik just tried attacking different minority groups looking for what would bolster her following on social media, and then LibsOfTikTok really took off and became influential in GOP politics and elections

Meet the woman behind Libs of TikTok, secretly fueling the right’s outrage machine

In just one year, the Twitter account has helped steer the outrage machine at the center of right-wing messaging and legislation.

The Washington Post
@jayulfelder
I think some of this is motivated by fear (on the right) that openly racist messaging might be more widely frowned upon than it used to be, so they're looking for another vulnerable target for their demagoguery, and to confuse the issue. And it all has real consequences for people

@jayulfelder

Can you name names? I am a little out of the loop.

@jayulfelder It's less about intentions and more about impact.

This game of "what goes in the heart-of-hearts of the abuser" is just a distraction because it centers them.
