It's an unpopular opinion but I am more of a tea drinker. Still sipping on my morning pot of Viennese Earl Gray from Harney & Sons right now.

Although it is of course, sweetened with spite and spiced with the tears of my TERF enemies.

I did a #dataviz class last week and resolved to do at least one visualization per week, so today I'm turning this poll into data visualizations. First, here's #datawrapper. I've embedded the picture but if you click through it is slightly interactive: https://www.datawrapper.de/_/Wjlt1/

What do journalists drink? | Created with Datawrapper

An extremely scientific (🤪) pie chart based on a Mastodon poll of journalists.

I also made the same visualization in #Flourish, which is another essentially free #dataviz tool (you CAN pay for both it and datawrapper but there's not much reason unless you want to hella customize it).

I made this one into a "donut" graph because who doesn't enjoy a donut with your coffee ☕️ or tea 🫖? https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/13530762/

Journalists drink beverages

A Flourish data visualisation by Kit O'Connell

Flourish

@oconnell energy drinks here when I can get them - need the extra b vitamins most good ones have + hate the taste of straight coffee and tea (which I love) isn't strong enough.

Also nice graph :)

@oconnell strongly agree with the donut decision. A visualization that gets your attention.
@oconnell I see it more as you pay to support continued development and bugfixes.
@majinnaibu that's a great reason to be a paid customer, you're right! :)

@oconnell @TexasObserver

I really like it’s a quarter spite.

@oconnell only a quarter spite? Looks like a cheerfulness bias in your sample.

@oconnell @TexasObserver

Please tell me people don’t still ‘teach’ data viz using pie charts. How to obfuscate and complify data in one easy lesson.

@oconnell I first read that as "why do journalists drink", which would also be an interesting poll.
@oconnell is that a good sweetener? Normaly one would think hate would be a bad ingredient for anything.
I prefer brown rock sugar (kluntje).
@oconnell Earl Grey is fantastic. Good choice.
@oconnell I said coffee but the pure spite is at least as essential, if not more so.
@e_urq @oconnell spite is the best non dairy creamer there is
@oconnell Cant answer. What I'm in the mood for. Most offen that is a soda like Cola or Club-Mate. Sometimes I feel like a cappuchino. Sometimes I feel like earl gray tee with a squize of lemon. And sometimes my job calls for 2 or 3 cans of Monster Energy before work...

@fuchsiii @oconnell I mean, that's kinda normal...

25% of all IT folks in Germany are on Addreall, 25% on Weed, 25% on Nicotine and the remaining 25% on [Iso-]Caffeine[-citrate]...

@oconnell
I am not a journalist but I'm not going to let that stop me from voting for coffee if I am offered an opportunity to vote for coffee.
@oconnell I'm not a journalist, just wondering if I can vote? I'll boost anyway, lol
@oconnell LOL not a journalist but definitely a documenter of life. I chose coffee because as an ex-pat New Yawker with time in Seattle, that's what runs through my veins; but I learned to run on pure spite during the COVID shutdown and now it's my alternate fuel. 🤣
