“Give Cyclists Space”
@dmoser
🙈 Great, in Germany we say: well thought, badly made - gut gedacht, schlecht gemacht
@dmoser this much less obnoxious one from #Newcastle, #australia. #biketooter
@naught101 @dmoser this makes a bit more sense. Telling the cyclists it’s ok to take the whole lane.
@skinner404 @dmoser it's what the law suggests in Australia (at least in NSW), though most car drivers don't know it, and you'll often get abused if you do.
@dmoser
Does it have a second screen that continues "...as they move out into the car traffic because we put this stupid thing in the cycle lane."
@dmoser that “Leroy” guy in Canada needs to do a hit here. The guy who stands by weird signs just to tell you they’re there. 🤣
@dmoser
Nobody can beat the Romanians
@sjaehn @dmoser the arrow on the tree is just 👩‍🍳💋
@IPEdmonton @sjaehn @dmoser not the mention the retainer fence

@sjaehn @dmoser

Hmmm... I'm a pretty technically proficient mountain biker, but I doubt I've got the chops to ride *up* a tree...

@sjaehn @dmoser Swap the markings for some buckled pavement and this could be Oregon
@dmoser Lack of self awareness? Must be a Republican sign.
@Oneworldnot3 Funny. Also very tired to make everything partisan politics. I think improving cyclist emancipation or environmental awareness is a worthy poltiical goal in its own right. (Also, likely not a conservative sign to advocate for cyclist rights in any country I'm currently aware off)
@sehe Partisan politics? That's a sad euphemism for fighting against fascist ideology. Yea, I'm tired too. I'd love to go back to the good ol' days of not giving a damn about politicians and enjoying my life. But here we are. One political party cares about all people; the other wants to destroy all that are different. The sign itself is indeed a wonderful advocate for cyclist rights (Democrat), but it's dangerous placement directly in the path of said cyclists (Republican), make it a threat.

@Oneworldnot3 There’s a lot of ground between “not caring about politicians” and calling bad things your favorite enemy party. Indeed, if the reactionary tendencies allow a GOP to swerve more and more towards fascism, the solution is not to become reactionary as well. Democracy works when people talk. We certainly agree about the gravity of the political landscape.

As for the traffic sign placement, “Never attribute to malice what can be explained by mere stupidity” (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon%27s_razor)

@dmoser #Alt4You a bike lane on the side of a multi-lane road with cars. In the middle of the bike lane, there is a large sign parked that says "Give Cyclists Space" - this sign is placed so it would force cyclists into the street with the cars.
@dmoser Exhibit for the Museum of Irony.
@dmoser The Sign giveth and it taketh away.
@dmoser this one clearly needs to be 6 or so feet directly to the right.
@dmoser Also, if you need extra messaging to explain then the system is designed poorly.
@dmoser jeezass🤦🏾‍♀️
@dmoser Par for the course. My small town built lots of bike lanes so that homeowners no longer have to leave their trash cans in their driveways or on the curb. So convenient.
@dmoser Nice. By the way, please add a caption to the image, which is nice for those who cannot see the image properly or not at all. You can follow https://botsin.space/@PleaseCaption to remind yourself about adding captions to images. Thanks.

@dmoser OMFG do they give Street Department Crews some kind of brain dampening drug in their coffee??? This is just obscene and it happens every day everywhere. #bikesafety #roads #travel #politics #pedestrians #cars
@dmoser They can have it! It’s more planet for the rest of us. ;P
@dmoser Local fav: "SHARE THE ROAD" construction signs that block the painted bicycle gutter and force me into the auto lane.
@dmoser at least it’s right between 2 sidewalk ramps
@dmoser Oh the sadness! At least you can see that in time to move gradually; better than a car door opening right in front of you.
@dmoser Go home sign, you're drunk.
@dmoser Space, the final frontier.
@dmoser image description: a movable electronic-display changeable message sign currently blocking a bicycle lane and displaying "give cyclists space". Cars pass by behind it.

@dmoser First give Space aliens bikes!

@dmoser No need for this sign in Copenhagen. Bicycles are everywhere. #denmark
@dmoser Me: “You can’t define irony and hypocrisy in a single photo”
They: “Challenge accepted!”
@dmoser That wheely bollard sign could be moved 2 meters to the right so easily.
@dmoser Shocking. Spray those damned weeds!
@dmoser The irony of this sign. Someone was surely having a laugh or deliberately pointing out the lack of consideration to cyclists. I bet most people drove past without even noticing (either the sign or its placement).
@dmoser ...swerves to run sign off the road
