Without shitposts, you have no constantly governed North Star in your community because you have no measure of its distance – only shallow and stricting fear of nonconformity. Like fish that choke without oxygen from water burbling over brooks, without shitposts your dreams of a blooming dialogue will dry into a wasteland.

I created an account here because I want to hang out with those with the same interests I have while laughing at the same time. If I wanted a dried up wasteland, I’d try to rekindle Google Plus or MySpace. No offense Bradley or Tom. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@arek @SwiftOnSecurity For sure, the cultural expectations surrounding what to post different greatly depending on your home instance. infosec.exchange sounds like it would be a pretty serious instance. In my corner of the Fediverse, pretty much anything that doesn't harm other people is fair game, including nudes. If you want to stay on infosec, you might consider creating a second account somewhere that's more casual.

I'm perfectly happy to have a social media that discourages it.

@SwiftOnSecurity though to counter my other comment, I feel there’s an over abundance of SJW types which are shutting down conversations because a pictures alt text is missing. While I haven’t seen it on this instance it’s very prevalent, and a countering point of view regardless what the subject seems unwelcomed.

So I agree there’s something wrong, but I don’t think it’s just shitposting.
