NYT's statement:
"Tonight’s suspension of the Twitter accounts of a number of prominent journalists, including The New York Times’s Ryan Mac, is questionable and unfortunate. Neither The Times nor Ryan have received any explanation about why this occurred. We hope that all of the journalists’ accounts are reinstated and that Twitter provides a satisfying explanation for this action."
@drewharwell they should just get off it already.
Does Twitter still have any major advertizers?
@drewharwell Do it CNN, create a Mastodon instance... you can do it!
@drewharwell This is the way.
@craigslytle @drewharwell @CNN
I'd love to see some major global news organisations come over to mastodon, but for the moment it seems to be smaller organisations such as the @BylinesNetwork that are forming the news reporting vanguard overhere which leaves me wondering if those moving to mastodon from the other site will end up altering how they monitor and perceive news and current affairs?
@drewharwell @mmasnick "reevaluate base on that response"
This is turning into a real hostage situation.
Where big accounts, who didn't leave are now trapped. They can't even market their Mastodon presence on Twitter anymore.
Early movers from Twitter might have benefitted a lot more.
@drewharwell Glad to see this statement put out. Do you think there’s a chance coverage of Twitter, and uses of tweets, can be reduced on your news coverage?
Without negative consequences, unstable and volatile behavior will likely continue. Reduced engagement and use of Twitter would be a negative consequence, though. And I think not hearing about tweets constantly on the news would encourage that.
