Kestrel.

One of my favourite locations for wildlife photography in England, is the Cotswolds.

On this day, I was looking for owls and hares, when this male kestrel caught my eye, perched on the top of a small tree beside the road.

Just as I lined the camera up, he took flight, and I captured that moment, with his wings in rather an angelic shape.

Great photo👍

I have noticed a rise in our local small raptor population over the past two years.

Not much of a Bird watcher (or whatever they are called) but watching the Kestrels hover and dart is just beautiful.

@petewalkden Can’t beat the cotswolds… born and raised there and always somehow called back by nature’s siren song…

@GwynMoxham It certainly has it's own wonderful atmosphere. The buildings, the landscape of those hills, the walls, and the pubs... I miss those pubs!

I feel a road-trip coming on, south of the border and a revisit to some of those old and wonderful haunts.

@GwynMoxham @petewalkden name some places to go: my sister is coming over next year to somewhere called Broadway (I think) where else is good round there?
@Simon_AUS_UK @petewalkden It’s all good, but stepping away from the fosse way tourist traps, my home town of Nailsworth in Gloucestershire has the most special place in my heart :)
@petewalkden Wow! Love the over-the-shoulder look, if birds have shoulders.
@petewalkden Look at those glorious wings. Great moment you captured there.
@petewalkden Thats pure awesomeness. Fabulous capture.
@petewalkden This is absolutely superb!

@petewalkden

As an amateur myself I've taken some nice shots along the coast of Cornwall, but mainly of scenery and structures.

@ProfDabirAlai Cornwall is a beautiful part of England. Such a long way for me these days...
@petewalkden
Agree, it is far from many parts of England. I drove back to London yesterday (6 hours), but can't wait to get back!
@petewalkden That's a one in a million shot. Beautiful.
@petewalkden such a beautiful bird. We had a nesting pair, and chicks. One day my kids saw a fluffy chick on the ground so we tiptoed up to see what it was eating. It was eating what sure looked like its fluffy little sibling!
@petewalkden we went to the Cotswolds Falconry Center when we were there. That's a great place. Besides being in the Cotswolds itself.
@petewalkden Absolutely stunning photo!
@petewalkden Fantastic shot! Congrats 😄
@petewalkden stunning photo, thank you for sharing.
@petewalkden it's an amazing picture! I assumed it was an oil painting at first as the pose seemed too perfect
@petewalkden we have a pair that visit our garden in the Forest of Dean too. What a stunning picture this is 😍
@petewalkden absolutely magnificent.. has a Jurassic air about it.
@petewalkden @leighwphotos I don’t recall seeing a bird of prey photo with the bird in flight looking anything other than straight ahead at a target. A stunning shot.
@timhobbs @leighwphotos I'll have to post some short-eared owls and hen harriers then, as they like to "look around" when flying. 👍
@petewalkden I keep seeing your photos and being in awe, I can't fathom how many hours it takes to get such beautiful shots.
@honeycomberocks Too many according to most sane people 😂
@petewalkden - Years ago, I got lucky enough to snap a dove about to take wing, and looking like an angel. Washington State
@petewalkden
The colours are beautiful too.
