It’s actually pretty straight forward and they respond quickly. So I’ll keep my Twitter specifically for the ability to contact companies for customer service. The same thing applies to Facebook.

In 30 days your username is available for someone else to use - so someone could impersonate you. And it means you can't leave info on where you've gone for friends, or tools like Fedifinder to find and follow, and you can't use those tools to find your friends's Mastodon names.

Twitter has been a game-changing source of connection and organizing for groups all around the world. On both sides. If a sizable portion of the people fighting and organizing for civil rights and basic human decency leave the platform and scatter to the winds (insta, Mastodon, Post, etc) we no longer have that powerful organizing tool, but the people who are fomenting racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and oppression still do. We are weakened, and they are empowered.
