To recap, the Republican Party is against:

-Paid sick leave
-Paid family & medical leave
-Universal childcare
-Universal pre-K
-Tax increases on corporations & the rich
-The expanded Child Tax Credit
-Student debt relief

Doesn't sound like the party of the working class to me.

Republicans can spout off all the catchy slogans about blue jeans and beer they want, but actions speak louder than words.
@rbreich words speak louder than actions to many people especially when they never hear a word about the actions.
@rbreich Republican voters don't care about what Republican politicians will do for them, they care more about what Republican politicians will do to Democrats.

@rbreich

Right. Like Biden screwing the rail workers "for the good of the economy" - which is code for "in service of billionaires".

@rbreich On point, as always! Keep up the excellent work!
@rbreich
Were you a writer for George Carlin?
@rbreich @Silversalty really? Can I follow you twice?
@rbreich … I was also intrigued in the controversial #davechappelle that although there was outrage at calling out cultural domination of a propaganda industry yet ZERO OUTRAGE on the calling out of the shared elite tax code
@rbreich You forgot Social Security, Medicare, affordable health insurance, and public schools.
@rbreich Seems like the Democrats also are against paid sick leave.
@Uhnnohn @rbreich It’s like picking straw from a camel’s back. They want it. But it’s one thing at a time. Try having a conversation with the new MAGA conservatives. There’s bigger fish…
@rbreich …most of the individual rights in the Constitution and its Amendments (criminal and civil) unless they impinge on (1) gun ownership or (2) Christian worshipping.
@rbreich They quite literally stand for causes that will destabilize and destroy America. There is nothing in the Republican platform that will improve life even for me, their primary demographic.
@rbreich They sound like superior life forms expressing their ignorant arrogance. Oh darn, I meant they just want to keep the grift rolling. Er…maximize profitability to optimize share holder value.
@rbreich Humanity has speciated. We’ve split. H. Sapiens Empathus and H. Sapiens Apathus. They aren’t bad, they are just evolving into what they were always meant to be. It’s in the name, Apathus. Utterly incapable of feeling anything from or for other people. My father is an Apathus, my mother is an Empathus. I’m also an Empathus. I fancy the notion that Empathus is dominant and Apathus is recessive.
@rbreich I think you are misunderstanding their definition of “working class”…
@Dhmspector @rbreich this was the response I was looking for.

@rbreich

The GOP is also against:

- Equal rights for LGBTQ+
- Same sex marriage

@rbreich honestly, when's the last time anyone thought that either party had the working class's back? There's no money in it.

@rbreich

In short "Right to Work" concept.

Which I understand to mean, -- it's better for an individual to negotiate with their employer than anyone else. Even if the individual gets a lower salary and benefits, the individual negotiated the terms, so it's better for the individual and society at large.

@rbreich Yeah, they suck, but Dems aren't doing much either. Republicans need to wake up and Democrats need to step up.
@rbreich Anything that promises to help others, republicans are against... Most republicans are selfish, and greedy... I don't think there is anything that can be done, other than voting all of them out...
@rbreich Wait, I hate to say this, but the Trumps claimed they were behind getting federal civil servants paid parental leave, and that has been a game changer. That was the absolute highlight of that presidency...among a lot of really terrible things.
@rbreich Abortion. Voting rights. Min Wage. Etc, etc…
@rbreich And Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA. Not a working class party.

@rbreich Today of all days, when the Democratic Party leadership went out of their way to kneecap unionized rail workers, specifically DENYING them paid sick days, THIS is your take?

Jesus. You wonder why the Republicans are peeling away working class Americans from the Democratic coalition? It's not that hard to figure out

@rbreich Nope. The only cry they hear is “cha-ching” from the sound of corporate kickbacks and campaign donations from the wealthy.
@rbreich you stopped short, very short, on that list. 😬
@rbreich Add, affordable healthcare for all and protecting the environment.
@rbreich And none of that will ever matter to the mouth breathers who are so pants-stainingly scared of migrants and race wars that they stay glued to Fox News eating the Republican Red Pills every day.
@rbreich if the corrupt corporate media had any ethics left our country might know the truth! I cannot (oh yes I can🤷‍♀️) believe that if we lived among an informed populace that electoral choices would be different. 💙
@rbreich They don't even try to hide it but people vote against their interests because they think the GOP hates the same people they hate. Many of them only harbor their hatred because the GOP and right-wing media taught them all about an alternate reality. They are happy puppets.
@rbreich never has, never will be…
@rbreich Also not very pro-family.
@rbreich I’ve always advised my children to be polite, cordial and respectful around Republicans but never go beyond superficial niceties. Certainly don’t date or breed with them.
@rbreich, even a country considered "third world" by most, Philippines, have paid sick leave. It's puzzling how the US has been lagging on this issue. What are the arguments against it again?

@rbreich Is running for President anywhere on your bucket list?

Please??

@rbreich In certain GOP controlled states haven't they passed laws where dirty old men can wed child brides? This certainly sounds like something that is done in Third World countries. Is this true?
@rbreich no, they're pretty much 1%ers, and have an alluring message convincing those who navigate life with fear and are susceptible to conspiracy theories as they disregard rhetorical analysis to discern quality, logical and reasonable dialogue in determining truth and fact. Sad really.
@rbreich
Better still, if you advocate for any of those things, carefully-brainwashed Republican voters will accuse you of being "elitist."
@rbreich
It IS. They expect you to WORK until you DIE.
@rbreich hello! I am an Italian currently living in Germany. You have no idea how strange it is reading this message. In Europe, or at least in Italy and Germany, this is the base-line. I do not understand why in a country advanced like yours, you still need to discuss about it. I said that several times to my American friends, and it is still a mystery for me.
@rbreich let’s just be honest and acknowledge that there is no political party of the working class.
@rbreich Not really, because they don't have a platform any more. They don't even sing "Happy Days Are Here Again" at their conventions, or wear those straw hats. But if Trump manages to haul his rotten ass to their next convention, that could be quite a show!
@rbreich here in Indiana, they hate the environment, paying people a decent wage, and hate people with expertise!
@rbreich Rcons=worship of $$$ at any cost. sad.
@rbreich this strongly resembles the position of Conservative Party in UK.
@rbreich I’m not confused. I saw those things too. They aren’t hiding any of it. That’s the worst part.
@rbreich They're basically against anything good.

@rbreich please help us get the word out against this!

Look what they're trying to do in Ohio! We voted TWICE to have NONgerrymandered districts. They refused to do it. This is their response...a 60% super majority requirement.

Ohioans...Educate yourself! Voting doesn't require a super majority!

@rbreich
Republicans support mass shootings by refusing to take any effective steps to curb them. Each mass shooting should be referred to as another Republican sponsored mass shooting. Put the blame where it belongs.
@rbreich
Also Against
-voting rights for minorities
-the ability for government to perform as designed
-free speech for authors
-lqbtq+ rights
-democracy
-opposing enemies of the state
-judges free to follow the law
-etc....
The list is too long to complete
@rbreich sounds to me like they are against human beings and humanity.
GOP = Gigantic Oppressive Parasite.
There are #parasites that manipulate the behaviour of their hosts in a way that is good for the parasite. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavior-altering_parasite The #GOP seems to be such a parasite, #brainwashing its host, the US electorate, so they can be exploited by businesses. Toxoplasma Gopii, so to speak #biology #politics #ideology #capitalism
Behavior-altering parasite - Wikipedia

@rbreich they are against much more than they are for!
@rbreich
or a "Christian" party - what would Jesus do?
@rbreich No, they think they’re being anti-black and don’t care that it’s also to their own detriment.
@rbreich it’s unconscionable that workers don’t have at least 7 days of paid sick leave.
