Good for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, which has decided not to support Scott Adams' virulent racism anymore. It's dropping his once-funny comic. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/02/we-are-dropping-the-dilbert-comic-strip-because-of-creator-scott-adams-racist-rant-letter-from-the-editor.html
We are dropping the Dilbert comic strip because of creator Scott Adams’ racist rant: Letter from the Editor

this is a decision based on the principles of this news organization and the community we serve. We are not a home for those who espouse racism. We certainly do not want to provide them with financial support.

That horrible feeling when you have something major installed and find a single screw left on the floor...

Now that Musk and minions are pulling the rug out from under all third-party API work -- the new policy is "pay or leave" after years of a no-charge basic tier that helped make Twitter popular -- a lot of developers are going to have to make some hard choices.

(Remember Musk's claim that he'd put big decisions like this one to a "vote"? Of course you do.)

365,200 new Mastodon accounts this month!

To be specific:

* Dec 31, 2022: 8,957,764 accounts
* Jan 31, 2023: 9,322,049 accounts

Not as much growth as December, but this is still great growth!

If you are still using Twitter, do not -- DO NOT -- use direct messages for anything you consider sensitive in any way. This goes triple for the journalists who insist on pouring their work into a site whose sociopath CEO has utter contempt for the press.

After the New York Times exposed George Santos, an incoming House Republican, as a fabulist, he did something very curious: He revived the dissolved mystery company through which he had claimed to have earned between $3.5 million and $11 million. A big question is the source of Santos' millions. He had no assets & a $55K salary in 2020 but seven-figures in income in 2021/22. It all has to do with a mystery firm he has not fully explained.
