Hi Mastodoning Mates. Any chance you could boost me a bit as I'm struggling to find folk I originally followed on the Twitter. Is that how this works? I'm ASD and find new systems like this and written-instructions a major headache and very confusing.
@Andydrewz
I think I"ve done that. Like you I'm all at sea at the moment. I'm finding that it works better on a browser though. The 2 apps I've tried were both hopeless.
@lee_eyres @Andydrewz
LEE which App ye tried? Android or iOS?
@fenriswitch @Andydrewz iOS Metatext & mastadon. Can’t get past the 1st screen on Metatext, mastadon I’ve signed in but nothing works. Using the browser is fine though.
@lee_eyres @fenriswitch @Andydrewz
I'm using Tusky on android and that works better for me
@AndrewPHarris @lee_eyres @fenriswitch @Andydrewz Agreed on Android: Positive experience with the Tusky app, and negative with Mastodon app. Chrome browser for website access (for the operations that Tusky doesn't support)
@lee_eyres @fenriswitch @Andydrewz Metatext is working fine for me on iPhone. Just had to log in to my indieweb account.
@lee_eyres Current consensus on this is to try #Metatext on iOS and #Tusky on Android - both include the Local and Federated feeds which are missing from the “official” apps
@nic @lee_eyres neither are optimal. @Gargron has a revised iOS app in development.
@nic thanks. I have Metatext & it won’t recognise the instance so I can’t sign in, & gives no help as to what I’m doing wrong. So for me currently it’s useless. I might try again but I’m doing fine on browsers at the moment.
@lee_eyres Ah, right. tbh I’ve just switched to the browser version on my phone, on realising that all my toots are being tagged as being in Welsh (my default setting) and there’s no way of changing that on Metatext.
@nic yes, it’s offering to translate them for me. 🤣
@lee_eyres oh, well that's good to know! I think that's new, too
@nic @lee_eyres Yes! Metatext has been the best out of all the other apps I’ve tried for iOS. Navigating this place makes WAY more sense now.
@lee_eyres @Andydrewz I'm on a mobile and downloaded Tusky ( same but heaps better for mobile)
@Andydrewz @lee_eyres agree re browser. And I think Follow Fridays will help like it did back in the day. Meanwhile I’ve mostly been posting my mastodon info on My other places so people find me
@Andydrewz I found adding #tags really helped me find people on here especially using #DoctorWho and #StarWars. Also searching and following those helped. Glad to see you are on here too!
@Andydrewz please don’t call us “mastodoning mates” - if my wife ever catches this line I’m busted.

@danvanmoll @Andydrewz

That's what I call a dangerous toot.

@Andydrewz

If you put your full mastodon account name (including the server name, starting with @Andydrewz)

in your twitter profile it can be picked up by your mutual followers using sites that hunt twitter for mastodon accounts.

For instance this one -

https://fedifinder.glitch.me

or backup site

https://fedifinder-backup.glitch.me/

You can export the list (button at the bottom of the page) and then import it to mastodon (go to "edit profile / import/export "

Hope that's useful!

@xanderl @Andydrewz
Note that this only works if you have the same handle on Mastodon as on Twitter, or you have your Mastodon handle somewhere in your Twitter bio.
@Je5usaurus_rex @xanderl @Andydrewz And this may be more difficult now since I think I heard tell that Elon is making that harder.
@ariaflame @xanderl @Andydrewz
yes, Mastodon links are now flagged as "malware" on Twitter.
@xanderl @Andydrewz
I've also used this by @debirdify to find a good chunk of mine
https://debirdify.pruvisto.org/
Debirdify

This is a web app that helps you find out which of the people you follow on Twitter are on Mastodon/in the Fediverse already and follow all of them easily.

@Andydrewz IF you're prepared to remporarily give it your twitter credentials I found Fedifinder very helpful for searching out the people you follow on twitter. It gives an exportable text file you can import into Mestodon in preferences. https://fedifinder.glitch.me/

Fediverse accounts of your X/Twitter followings

@Andydrewz *temporarily, not remporarily. I came over all Scooby Doo there.
@Andydrewz There several websites that will find your Twitter friends for you (as long as they've mentioned their Mastodon accounts on Twitter itself). Try Debirdify or Twitodon (or both). They'll produce a spreadsheet for you, which you upload to Mastodon to follow everyone on it automatically
@Andydrewz What helped me a lot at first was when I saw someone I knew I would peek at their lists of followers/followings and follow people that I knew, or seemed like I'd like to know. So each person I followed spawned multiple more people to follow. Also I occasionally browse my instance's feed and the fediverse feed to find interesting people or just to see posts from people I don't follow.
@Andydrewz Hey Andy! Hope you're well and a great (and well coming) community can be found at...
#uglydogs Hope this helps! 💙
@Andydrewz @rachel_maria65 Hello, and welcome! I don’t want to drown you with more text, so I’ll just mention that the #ActuallyAutistic hashtag and the @actuallyautistic group might be a good way to start finding your place here.
@Andydrewz Hi Andy -- go to https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/ -- it's a tool that will search your Twitter follows for Mastodon accounts. Hopefully that will help!
@Andydrewz Use https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/ to link up with fellow #TwitterMigration folks you followed or who followed you. You log in with your Twitter account, download the list as CSV, and import (using merge) here.
@Andydrewz add some #s naming your interests in your bio and posts, been told that helps.
@Andydrewz You know that you can use Twitter's search to search through tweets by people you follow, right? Search for "mastodon" there and you'll probably get a lot of folks' posts saying what their account names are.
@Andydrewz There’s a tool that helps you find your Twitter people on Mastodon and follow them. It’s called Debirdify. Hope it helps. https://debirdify.pruvisto.org/
@Andydrewz If you go back to the bird site and search for mastodon.scot you'll probably find some familiar accounts. You could also leave a message there yourself so people can find you here.
Also you can follow hashtags. Put # and whatever your interest is in the search box, click on the result and click on the + top right.
Also scrolling through the local feed will help you find contacts.
@Andydrewz An easy way is to hashtag in your profile
@Andydrewz you can search by name using the # icon

@Andydrewz This tool may help: With just a couple authentications, you'll get a list of all your twitter followers with mastodon handles in their profiles:

https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/

@debivort @Andydrewz That is what I've been using. There also a link at the bottom of the results you can download and then import the whole list into mastodon.
@markhertling What you want is Debirdify. It's running in several places because most are absolutely crushed by load right now, try this one https://debirdify.actnow.link/ It'll look for all your Twitter follows, find their Mastodon accounts, and output a nice csv file you can import into your Mastodon account and voila - you're following them here.
@Andydrewz Try using the Debirdify app https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/ to find your follows that are on this platform. Also add your Fediverse/Mastodon handle to your bird site profile, so others that follow you there can find you here. Other tips if you follow the #welcome hashtag.
@Andydrewz Try using fedifinder.glitch.me or associated sites to get a list of those you follow, download it, then go to "preferences" on your Mastodon account, click on import and upload the list...
@Andydrewz I will friend you. Am not well followed but will boost too. Have you tried posting to some hashtags to find common interests? That is my plan over the next two weeks. Take caae and happy Turkey Day up coming.
@Andydrewz Try pruvisto.org/debirdify/ to find old Twitter mates, also put your mastodon name in your Twitter profile description so people there can find you here!
@Andydrewz As birdify seems to be struggling lately, try https://fedifinder.glitch.me/ to find your Twitter friends and import them here.
@Andydrewz not tech savy so much here lol have to wait & ask “youngin’s” myself… hears the infamous Tom Petty “I Won’t Back Down!” 👍🏻

@Andydrewz Search for hashtags that you like. Even better, use the advanced mode display and pin the hashtags (you can pin multiple hashtags). Or follow hashtags (you can follow them like people). Either way, you'll find people who post them, aka people with interest like you. Follow those people. Even follow the people they follow, who are probably also interesting.

Do this for a while and you'll be awash in interesting posts!

@Andydrewz
I found a handy tool with another Mastodon user.
It helps you search existing Twitter contacts if they are also a Mastodon user.

@Andydrewz
There are some tools to help cross-reference your twitter follows, e.g. @debirdify, but they are (as far as I know) all a bit of a manual process I'm afraid.
@Andydrewz I didn’t know you on Twitter (wuut??) but how fun are you!
@Andydrewz trying to get familiar with this app
@Andydrewz
Try using #Debirdify, which can export your contacts to a CSV file that you can then import into Mastodon. https://debirdify.pruvisto.org/
Debirdify

This is a web app that helps you find out which of the people you follow on Twitter are on Mastodon/in the Fediverse already and follow all of them easily.

@Andydrewz I found they trickled in over the course of a week or so. Don't rush it is my advice.
@Andydrewz you might want to try adding your profile on your old account on that bird thing and see if debirdify isn't overloaded yet.
@Andydrewz Also, hi, and maybe look through tags like #ActuallyAutistic -- as many people from that community move from Twitter they probably stick to the same hashtags.
@Andydrewz I used this tool to help find people https://fedifinder.glitch.me/ - I managed to get about 10% of the people I followed in one csv file.
