The number of un-alt-texted images in my Home feed makes me sad.

Also, “a picture of a tree” isn’t helpful.

Where is the tree? Mountaintop, suburban street, forest glen, riverbank? Is it majestic, tiny, gnarled, smooth? Is it deciduous or evergreen? Covered with snow, autumn leaves? Why did you post it? What meaning does it convey?

Think of writing your alt text as a puzzle! Read other alt text and think about it. What would you have said differently?
