Last week, one of my colleagues informed me that the word βtweetβ was now included in the Oxford English Dictionary (see βQuiet announcementβ at the end of the page.) @alex @taylorlorenz Ah yeah, I thought it had come from Twitterrific.
I got on Twitter in March of 2007, and started using it almost immediately. In fact, I have almost no memory of Twitterβs site from back then because I only ever used Twitterrific. I canβt help but wonder to what degree it helped influential users like Gruber stick with Twitter.

@taylorlorenz @erinfulmer Remember that the Fediverse (including all the instances running Mastodon software) is decentralised
So there is no central authority that can rename toots and tooting to anything else
What these things are called is entirely up to us! π
(Technical aside: the Fediverse is built on a W3C standard called ActivityPub, and at that level the official name for toots/posts/whatever-theyβre-called is βstatusesβ)
@taylorlorenz As someone coming from Twitter I am happy to finally see some Mastodon drama I can take part in.
And to all of those explaining that I can set up my own instance and rename it to whatever I want - stop ruining my fun. I am busy complaining here!
