But there's a sector of performative 'activism' and a need to commodify identity on here that turns into little wars amongst groups.

Different interfaces are good for different things. The 'verse is a firehose in which urgent and important things are easy to miss. Realtime chat is a better way for server admins to address emergent threats (new instances sending spam or abuse, DDoS attacks, non-consensual archiving of non-Public posts etc).
