The elegance of this observation is simply... 🤯

Oh, and while I am here, some more #realisations:

The #AI we have been fawning over is just a shitty version of #akinator trying to impress you by showing you that it can finish your sentences.

A good sentence-prediction #subroutine does not an AI make.

All it proves is that none of us have any original thoughts. That, if you mash together enough (unoriginal) thoughts, you too can compile a set of sentences that seem coherent and uncommon enough to FEEL unique.

Meta to test monthly subscription service priced at $11.99
https://www.reuters.com/technology/meta-launches-subscription-service-priced-1199-month-2023-02-19/

What do you get for a monthly subscription fee to Facebook? Not much: a blue tick, and the knowledge that Facebook has your official ID for ever, which it can sell to other companies and miuse to send you more targeted ads. Meta isn't offering to pay you for this; now they want you to pay to be their product.

If Meta was offering an ad-free version of FB or an untampered feed, that would be an improvement. But as it stands, this is only more — as @pluralistic calls it — enshittification. If it's not worth your US$12/15 a month for them to drop the ads, it shows they're making more money than that from feeding you ads and snooping on your online presence.

Meta to test monthly subscription service priced at $11.99

Meta Platforms (META.O) on Sunday announced that it is testing a monthly subscription service, called Meta Verified, which will let users verify their accounts using a government ID and get a blue badge, as it looks to help content creators grow and build communities.

(The immediate aftermath of this #digital #serfdom, IMHO, will be a period of #chaos where we won't be able to exchange information freely and -more importantly- instantly.

A lot of shit will go down in that interim period. I just hope we have enough alert conversation leaders to steer us past...)

(PS: I know I would like a #prepper, readying for the #collapse but, honestly, look around you?)

Something that has been bothering me for the past few days.

All the 'town squares' we have been using, that we have grown accustomed to, are slowly becoming inaccessible with no immediate replacement available.

- Twitter has had massive changes to its algo.
- FB & Insta were already compromised.
- YouTube has had a change of leadership that will change discoverability
- Mastodon doesn't have (and probably never will have) enough traction.

Digital #serfdom is already here, isn't it? 🤷‍♂️

why hasn't anyone integrated #ChatGPT (or #Bard) into the phone keyboard apps?

wouldn't it be the most obvious application of the tool? 🤔

#MastIndia and @mastodonindians #India #Indians, I come to you seeking a small favour...

Is there someone here who hasn't taken the 3rd (a.k.a. precautionary) dose of the #COVID19 vaccine? Would you mind doing a (really) short interview with me on the subject for an audio project?

DMs open, happy to keep you anonymous. :)

Pls boost and share within your #communities for reach? TIA! 🙏

India has banned a BBC documentary critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged role in deadly riots more than 20 years ago from being shown in the country. One of Modi's advisers says YouTube and Twitter have complied with the order to block it: https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/23/business-india/india-modi-bbc-documentary-twitter-youtube-censorship-intl-hnk/index.html
