Different interfaces are good for different things. The 'verse is a firehose in which urgent and important things are easy to miss. Realtime chat is a better way for server admins to address emergent threats (new instances sending spam or abuse, DDoS attacks, non-consensual archiving of non-Public posts etc).

It's a shame that Mastodon uses Discord though, instead of a federated chat room on matrix or XMPP. In fact, I reckon @snikket_im would be ideal for this.
