Still too early for most #flowers in this part of the #MojaveDesert, but here is a pioneer, a desert marigold in the footprint of last year’s #YorkFire in the #MojaveNationalPreserve on the border between #Nevada and #California.

Fun find in the field--I saw a flock of Pinyon Jays moving through a burned Joshua tree woodland. I watched one hammering a seed, so after it left I went to investigate and found these pieces of (toasted) Mojave yucca seeds.
