I don't think I ever tooted this story since I've been in the fediverse, ergo, a 🧵 ...

It was 1973 and I was on a family vacation visiting the 19th century mining boomtown of Virginia City, Nevada. My parents wanted to take a boring--to a 15-year-old boy--tour of a Victorian home dubbed "The Castle" and later to browse the dozens of gift shops on C Street.

I decided to go checkout the creepy looking ghost town cemetery.

Nope, not the remains of an ancient Native structure but rather leftover trash from the movie industry. Valley of Fire Nevada State Park has been the location for many movie sets. These remains are from The Professionals (1966). It was a film about an American rancher, hired guns, the Mexican Revolution, and Pancho Villa.

I used the drop box at the Centennial Hills YMCA polling location. I was there about 12:30 PM today.

Parking was plentiful. There was no line to vote in person, and there were no disturbances (no intimidating or physical hinderances) when I was there.

2/2 It will be a fact that NVE customers in those categories will pay 2X for that 15 minute usage. They (you & me) will pay the 15 minutes according to the PUCN approved usage rate per kilowatt hour, then we will pay for that time again under a different name: #DemandCharge.

I call it double dipping.

This has been fought in court & utility customers in #Nevada lost.

BTW - #WarrenBuffet, who many tout as a philanthropist, is the largest shareholder of NVE. He gives nothing back to Nevada

1/2 This is my understanding of what #NVEnergy ( #Nevada electric #utility #monopoly) is about to do to every customer, rich or poor, & to SMALL businesses, starting Jan 1, 2027, to subsidize NVE decreasing profits due to more widespread use of solar energy in the state. Mind you, they are still very profitable.

NVE will measure each of those customer's HIGHEST 15 minutes of usage per 24 hour cycle, determine the charge for that 15 minutes then ADD it on top of, in addition to, the total bill.
