I recently found out this #opensource project about video game spaces, or "a digital museum of video game levels," as its creators described it. Within the webpage several levels are fully explorable, in order to better grasp their spatial qualities: https://noclip.website/

Working on a new piece of map for Ultima Online, Tides of Power. This is Settler's Cove, a lawless village in the lost lands.

Installing #Docker in #Linux today to self-host a wiki. I'm doing this so that I can make/transfer my #TTRPG and #WorldDesign stuff to a format that doesn't rely on outside hosting or nonfree tools (I've been using Obsidian for ages).

Is there an easier way to do this? Sure! I could just use TiddlyWiki or FeatherWiki. I could use different note taking software, or even (gasp!) a simple text editor. Or hell, I could use a Word Processor.

But none of those much easier options would teach me Docker. Also, I could have them set up in like two seconds, which means I'd have to actually start writing.

And you know what? Owlbears are total procrastinators.

Yes, this is why #DeusExHumanRevolution & #DeusExMankindDivided are better games than #Cyberpunk2077 simply because they are condensed narratives with actual plot and direction.

Do I think Mankind Divided deserved a longer story? Shure!

Would've loved some Post-Game? Yeah!

But there's a reason we didn't get that and why even the two #DLC stories use compact, enclosed maps and a strict storyline...

  • Because too much shit going on makes things more expensive at the expense of a quality Game.

And that's why #Stalker2 also doesn't have #cars but mere #FastTravel with ingame-paywall, because the level of detail to the world is not practical when being able to race through the map that by car standards takes at most 5 minutes to traverse!

Try flipping common tropes. Maybe the desert has the most advanced tech, or the ocean is full of floating cities. Just make sure your world’s rules make sense.

As a thought exercise, I've been wondering if WWI + European Mythology + European locations = Tolkien's Lord of the Rings; what will today's political Zeitgeist produce as the next hit fantasy setting? Are their better equations to use? How would you plug in Brandon Sanderson's work?

What does the current regime look like as fantasy characters? What other elements need to be entered? Social media? Populist religion?

As I've been struggling to find full scans of some books I wanted to put on the virtual bookshelf, and I needed to fill the space with something, I modelled a huge pile of LP records and an unnecessarily true-to-life 3D replica of a Sony Dynamicron L-250 Betamax cassette (that Sony tried and failed to force as an industry standard in the 80s' Japan to oppose VHS).

Planning on adding an Audio-Technica Sound Burger portable record player, and a Sony SL-2710 Betamax cassette player to the world later when I feel like it.

Started reworking my VRChat home world I carried over from Second Life because I got tired of 1024x1024 maps and because all the diffuse textures came with baked lighting and shadows, and I wanted to change it from day to night.

This bookshelf is complete and total nonsense and I realised I now absolutely must research, model, and stack on shelves roughly 300~500 books I read over my lifetime with accurate sizes, thickness, and bespoke covers. Hoo boy.

Working some more on my VRC World, i probably should be finishing old areas first but oh well, had a lot more fun making a basement / cave system for my house 😅
