I have an overstuffed box file at home that contains a plethora of maps, gazetteer of towns, cities, hamlets, continents etc, descriptions of HUNDREDS of NPC characters (some former PC's) and reams of handwritten lore, history, politics, religion and mythology incl the entire pantheon of deities and custom home brew rules, creatures, spells and even some new classes for my long dead #DnD campaign.

A lot of it is contradictory, some maps don't fit into the overarching world setup correctly. Some towns/cities are illogically placed. So I've tried many many times to update it but it's a mammoth task.

#WorldBuilders .. do you build top down or bottom up? Start with the big picture and get finer and finer details? Or Start at the lowest level and build upwards??

Spent some time watching world building videos and increasing the margins of my ttrpg document.

With Canadian Thanksgiving behind me and Halloween just ahead, I've been thinking a lot about holidays and specifically holiday traditions. Traditions seem like an important part of our world, I just think they provide a kind of foundation for a culture.

While there are definitely some traditions out there I don't like, I think we still need traditions.

But today I'm wondering for all the #authors #ttrpg gms and #worldbuilders in here, what are the holidays or traditions of your world?

The Lord of Lonely Places is a deity within the "March of Silence" pantheon, reigning over forsaken areas and realms of profound solitude. This entity is depicted as a humanoid husk shrouded in dust or tattered cloths, embodying the essence of neglect. Witnesses have reported sightings and eerie vocal encounters with this being in regions where towns and cities lie long-deserted. Some even profess to have discovered its progeny in empty dwellings—dust-laden, cobwebbed cocoons harboring bizarre children.

Does anyone know any good accounts for character design, worldbuilding, and other such shenanigans?

Alright #worldbuilders and #TTRPG people, what's an idea you've had for a TTRPG setting? Or something you've wanted to include or add to an existing setting?

I'm making a new setting once my Pathfinder 2E Drakkenheim game wraps up and I'm looking for ideas and inspiration. Almost nothing about my setting is set in stone yet.

Same dumb ideas, new instance.

A re- #introduction: M. Blind, he/him. That's me in the profile pic.

A former #bookseller (15 years at one of the big US chains, laid off) and still a bookseller at heart, and a huge #book, #scifi, #fantasy, and #ttrpg enthusiast. Too many works-in-progress to count, as I suffer from both #worldbuilders disease and have a bad habit of not finishing things. Nice to meet y'all, looking forward to great conversations.

Thinking about worldbuilding and the fact that where I'm from, old ladies don't ask you where you come from they ask you who your people are, which is phrased as "who do you belong to?" Which has a number of implied meanings all layered on top of each other about how they are thinking about you, and how a simple question like that - and how you would go about answering it - can tell you more about a society than an author can infodump in 5 pages #worldbuilders #worldbuilding #amwritingfantasy
