Blue hour over Mont Blanc. Deep winter — the cold settles in, the air perfectly still. Time to crawl into the sleeping bag and feel that first wave of warmth after the chill. No tent, just a bivy bag, open to the stars. Every second was worth it.

Calm after the storm

A view of from Little Glas Maol into the head of a snowy Caenlochan Glen under a bluebird sky. Large cornices have developed after overnight westerlies transporting & depositing snow. Avalanche hazard is high on affected slopes. A day for care in route planning …and re-evaluation during the approach, but splendid isolation and views to remember make it worth the effort .
