We start with an animation, showing a montoge of scenes from Acantha's life as a ghost. Then we get to the prologue
Chapter 5 Prologue: Adaluxen
We open on the human city of Adaluxen, as they prepare for the annual Tol Yago festival. I love the author's summary in the archive:
Chapter 5: Promises and Changes
Bells arrives, and it looks like the explosion almost hurts her. Ramus, now a giant monster, is attacking this city. I love the perspective showing the size differences: Ramus in the previous chapter was about the same size as Acantha and Bells, and now he's enourmous. Meanwhile, Schnell watches with glee. Bells looks like she still sees Ramus as her kid. Some of Ramus' claws are extended more than others: can he control them the way a cat can? Does Ramus realize the creature he's fighting is a god, or does he just see a tiny moving person.
Another animation shows Bells fighting the giant Kaiju. Bells recovers pretty quickly, but Ramus is getting closer to the city. Bam: Syias enters and kills Ramus. I want to cry, and apparently Bells does too. The two guardians communicate in their mysterious language. Bells is so sad as she walks away. But wait! Is Ramus still alive? Not for long.
Back to the humans now, Midah realizes the statue warned him of the attack.
Scene change back to Acantha, and we get the chapter cover page.
Oh no, we have a flashback to young Acantha and young Ramus:( "We're not really ghosts, we're monsters." Oh my guardians, the way the flashback cracks and drains away is incredible, and we're back in the present with Acantha facing monster Ramus. Oh wait it was a dream: Acantha didn't actually get to see Monster Ramus before he died. Acantha is not a "snake boy:" she is a snarky fruit destroyer. That giant skeleton must be Max's.
Strange grunting? Now we're back to Bells' temple. Oh hi Schnell. Wow, his "I can't save them" is extra cruel considering he could save them by literally doing nothing. Hmm, something just occurs to me for the first time. Schnell says all ghosts "only change for the worse," and the assumption is that he means they turn into kaiju. But maybe Schnell used to be less evil, and his time as a ghost made him worse? Bells still wants to help our protagonist. Oh my Guardians Schnell makes me want to scream. Flashback! The flashback is sad but over fast. Our girl Acantha realizes Ramus was on the move recently, which leads Bavel and Hessa to hear her. Yay, these two are finally showing up in the present! Bells and Acantha: an unlikely team. Now it's Syias who is ready to attack: end of chapter!
This chapter was so sad. I seem to recall I was confused by all the jumping around my first time through, but it doesn't seem very hard to follow now.
Now there's some guest art and "joke" animation.

Gone Fishing 3: The Tourist
For the next Gone Fishing, we return focus to Midah, the guy who can hear the statue talking, which is actually a deputized guardian of the city! I love seeing the city. The animals are very cute. Midah doesn't want political influence. I like all these masks, and I really really love Midah's snark. Ciante is here! This side chapter is very short and gives a lot of emotional whiplash.
