I am absolutely disgusted that all three of #Brattleboro's #VTHouse delegation voted for this bill that guts what few tenant protections #VT law provides, especially at this time in history, with our communty suffering a severe #housing shortage and #homelessness crisis.

Emilie Kornheiser, Molly Burke, and Ian Goodnow, *shame on you*!

#Vermonters, if you value sanity, please contact your #VTSenate and urge them to vote against H.772. #VTpol #VTpoli

A Vermont landlord pursues debts from tenants. His wife now helps write eviction law.

For years, Rep. Debbie Dolgin and her husband brought cases before an assistant judge who issued arrest warrants to collect unpaid debts from their tenants. As a major landlord-tenant bill is actively debated, Dolgin says she sees no conflict in her roles.

If there is one thing that I have learned about #politics from my involvement in politics as an elected and appointed official in #Vermont, it's that the most stark distinction between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives almost invariably presume to speak for everyone, and liberals are almost always careful not to pretend they speak for others.

Conservativism values conformity; Liberalism values diversity.

Vermont prevails in multistate lawsuit over gender-affirming care for minors

“We will continue to fight to ensure that gender-affirming care remains safe, effective, and protected,” said Attorney General Charity Clark.

RE: https://animalofthings.com/leash-laws-in-vermont/

No dog should ever be off a leash when not on the owner's private property, and then only when the property is sufficiently fenced and no one else is present, unless the owner first receives consent from visitors to unleash the animal. Dogs don't belong in public, unless they are certified service animals. Your desire for animal companionship does not supercede my right to be free from molestation or attack. #Vermont #VTpol #VTpoli #PeopleFirst

City Council modifies Essex Junction’s DEI policy to comply with federal grant condition for train and bus station

Back in 2022, the City was awarded $3 million from the Federal Railroad Administration for improvements to the Essex Junction Multimodal Train and Bus Station. But to comply with the grant’s conditions, the City must alter the DEI language in its mission, value and goals statement, and job descriptions.

#Vermont needs to understand that taxing fossil fuel providers is not a viable means of altering Vermonters' consumption patterns.

What #VT should do is tax fossil fuel consumption directly.

Act 18, the Affordable Heat Act, is a morass and should be repealed and replaced with a direct fuel tax.

Act 122, the Climate Superfund Cost Recovery Program, is equally unworkable, if not moreso, and will never produce the desired results, if it even survives judicial scrutiny.

Meanwhile, all three of the #Brattleboro delegation to the #VTHouse voted to pass H.772, a bill that eviscerates tenant protections in #Vermont, which are meager eough as they stand. H.772 is a huge giveaway to #landlords.

I am extremely disappointed in Ian Goodnow (Windham-9), Molly Burke (Windham-8), and Emilie Kornheiser (Windham-7), today.

This past weekend, Rep. Burke announced her retirement. She will not seek re-election this November.

Vermont H. 772, A Bill That Would Destroy Critical Tenant Protections | Vermont Legal Aid

As written, this bill guts tenants’ procedural due process rights in a variety of ways.

alt text: "Stop drifting: build homes for people who live here, grow real cities and strong villages on purpose, welcome working families, tax speculation instead of residency, fix rules that block building, right-size government for a small aging state, and make Vermont a place that actually works—not a museum or playground, but a future we choose."

A friend asked me at Town Meeting why there were armed police present. She felt intimidated by the police presence. I pointed out to her that they were there to protect us, and I meant that seriously.

One of the foundational rules of our democracy is that the people are forbidden to bring weapons to a polling place (13 VSA §4027, 17 V.S.A. § 2510), and a #TownMeeting in #Vermont #VT law qualifies. Furthermore, our Town Meeting takes place at #Brattleboro Union High School … #VTpol #VTpoli

My speech regarding the #Brattleboro #Vermont #VT Human Services budget, at #TownMeeting 2026, from 5:20:07 through 5:24:18. My actual motion to amend Article 8 to raise the Human Services budget from $1 back to the originally allocated $482,665, is at 5:53:25, which after some confusion over the wording, eventually passed 144-101. The vote is at 6:19:56. #VTpol #VTpoli
