Some FOSS projects just baffle me on the tools they use for community interaction. I just wanted to ask the Unity Desktop team a question and they only use proprietary tools like discourse, Twitter and reddit. They offer a bridge to matrix but nothing more.
Is this odd, or is it just me?
This morning I woke up and discovered my #Ubuntu had magically switched from #UnityDesktop to #Gnome (several months after install). Looked great, better native screenshot commands, Play & Previous/Next Track keys finally work.
But many small issues arose: unable to remap Calculator key, some custom .desktop files stopped showing icons and are not lockable on dashboard, cursor disappears in Chrome on click (?).
I rebooted to at least fix the cursor, and... it started on Unity desktop again.
Ubuntu Unity 24.04 LTS is coming, and it's going to use Calamares as the installer.

@mikegrindle nice write-up. Peppermint is a lovely choice.
I use Linux everywhere as well (#Xubuntu since #UnityDesktop was introduced, but I'm warming to #ZorinOS lately), and the last time I bought a brand-new laptop was ten years ago. I favour #Thinkpad and #Dell #Latitude.
