When I reflect on my RPG industry years (1990 to 2001 or maybe 2004, depending) one thing I find interesting is what I'd argue with my editors about.

Tense. I don't mean the arguments were tense. I mean I recall arguing _about_ tense. 😄 For example.

But one thing is for sure: the editors who were the most important to me WERE the ones I felt the need to fight.

Forever grateful for them.

Another convo reminds me: this old RPG writing exercise still punches its weight. If you ever need to kill a few minutes stretching your writing muscles, this doesn't ask much .... just write ~250 words, expressing the provided facts.

The fun part is that the original concluded long ago, so once you're done you can compare your version with several others. No winners or losers, just an informative little window.

The single most important skill for telling a great story is immersion! 🤑

Immersion is drawing your audience out of their conscious reality and capturing them within the reality crafted by your narrative. Break this immersion, and you expel them back to their mundane reality.

The single most important skill for telling a fantasy story

When I wrote my first novel I had a very limited understanding of what I was doing, and how to go about it. I essentially pieced it together as I went, from a mixture of research, author interviews…

This has been a difficult few months of #TTRPGWriting. Not that the job was unpleasant, you understand, I fucking love the work, but because Ireland is *fucking useless* at providing mental health supports to anyone who's not a rich wanker.

Time for a well-earned rest.

I can't talk about anything I've written yet, but I *can* show you one of the books I've been using for reference material 👀

The biggest problem with doing your own layout is that the content you have to cut to make things fit is your own.

There is a weird thrill in going back to read something you wrote awhile back and finding it really compelling.

So during the pandemic I got the bug to write a #dnd5e adventure. Its a basic 1st level kind of romp through an old temple now in use by brigands. Nothing fancy, but I was stoked as it was my first written thing.

So I don't know if I want to sell it, or give it away or what, but what I could use on it is some feedback. Is there a place of people willing to do that or a service I need to pay for? Not sure what's out there and available.
