This was not only my first time cooking a tri-tip, but I did it unconventionally – smoked it like a brisket. It turned out amazing.

Tri-Tip turned our pretty perfect medium-rare. After smoking outside for an hour and a half at 225°, I brought it in for a reverse sear on cast-iron in butter, about four minutes a side. Then rested for 15 minutes before under a foil tent. Internal temperature after the rest hit 135°.
