After a multi-year period of deliberation, copious publicity, and installation of very clear signage, the City of #KingstonNY has turned on school zone #speedcameras for a thirty-day warning period.

Across four school zones, they are averaging FIVE HUNDRED FIFTY WARNINGS (550) PER DAY, according to the mayor’s weekly newsletter.

Drivers like to pretend that they aren’t the problem, but they are.

For future reference, I’m starting a thread of all the times #KingstonNY drivers try to kill me.

so-called #trafficsafety is often straight up #victimblaming, placing the blame for #trafficviolence on those who are hurt or killed by #cars. 🔄

today in #copenhagen #motornormativity, a sign reading:

🪧 »Dear cyclists. Take care of the cars, reduce the speed.«

dear kids. take care of the gun owners, wear a bullet-proof vest. 🙃

It has been a disastrous week for #trafficviolence in the #hudsonvalley. Four dead in three crashes in three days, several others critically injured, and now another person has been shot in a road rage fight. And the week isn’t over yet.
Guy who nearly caused a pile-up on Route 17 is full-on writing an email in the left lane. He learned nothing from the experience and went right back to it.

Our sympathy to the family and friends of the longtime Monterey County resident who died yesterday after his bicycle and an SUV collided in Pebble Beach.

We are keeping his name private for now. And we have no CHP report or other details about the collision, so we’re unable to offer any comments about the specific circumstances (or to confirm whether the details reported by media are accurate). https://www.ksbw.com/article/deadly-crash-shuts-down-17-mile-drive-chp/69646339?brid=xup_u0IjDloDRHH4xZ8RAA

It’s not anticipated that a #GhostBike will be installed, since the fatal collision happened in Pebble Beach, which is private property (as noted in our tips for biking 17-Mile Drive, PB https://bikemonterey.org/biking-17-mile-drive.html).

On Development: Traffic violence is more than an accident – Matter News

Traffic violence is not a term in common usage. But it’s a whole lot more accurate than “accidents” – a benign misnomer for the carnage that can take place on our streets and highways.

#trafficEngineering is a social science not technical profession and if we're not going to hold the Engineer of Record accountable for #trafficViolence, then they should not hold any authority over street design. #visionZero

Awful to learn that a driver killed a cyclist Sunday night at Alemany & Naglee in the Outer Mission, District 11. Alemany is a high-traffic road with a buffered but unprotected bike lane, and this is further south than where Cayuga ends, so Cayuga Slow Street is not an alternative here.

Jennifer Lynn Chatman of Salinas died Nov 3, 2025 after her bicycle was struck by the trailer of a semi truck at the intersection of South Sanborn Road and Work Street, Salinas.

As we told Sara Rubin, #MontereyCountyNow / #MontereyCountyWeekly editor, infrastructure such as protected bike lanes with a physical barrier are what’s most needed to keep people who bike safer. In general, paint on pavement provides little to no real benefit in preventing fatalities.

Nevertheless, one “paint on pavement” practice we would like to see far more of — and which possibly could have saved Jennifer’s life — is bike boxes at intersections.
