A great example of #Motornormativity. Taking a publicly funded thoroughfare away from road users to offer subsidized storage of personal property.
Humanoid robots are a Health & Safety nightmare - here’s why they are normally demo-ed in fenced-off enclosures People find it unacceptable to kick a child, yet we allow drivers to harm children on our streets every day! Why the disparity? #MotorNormativity

More than half of all journeys by car are for recreational purposes, so why shouldn’t people on e-bikes be allowed the same? #MotorNormativity @[email protected]

The one thing that amazes me is how my other half is envious of other parents driving their children around in cars whilst the same folks are envious of us not being stuck in traffic jams with them.

Got myself into an argument about relative risk posed to pedestrians by cyclists and cars the other day. Not proud of myself. Arguing on the internet is something I should have grown out of by now. But I can't help but feel that cyclists are almost as unfairly demonised as spiders (except Australia), and a lot of the reaction to them is a *perception* that they're dangerous to pedestrians fuelled by outrage manufacturing, rather than genuine facts and statistics. #BikeTooter #Motornormativity 1/

It has been 4 years since my original #introduction. I've had a few new followers since then. Hello! I'm a writer of #SpecFic and lead the #BSFA #OrbitShorts crit track. I'm a professional #environmentalist but mostly post about #cycling and #motornormativity. Also #MonsterOfTheWeek, #archery, and #OutdoorAdventure. I'm #neurospicy at ~2million scovilles, #synaesthetic, and enjoy chasing #Garmin badges. Opinions are entirely my own. (We will be getting another derp wolf, I'm working on it!)

It starts with looking at a cyclist with all the bullshit "war on motorists" running through their head, and ends with having their passenger lean out of a window to shove a cyclist off their bike while filming it for social media. It starts with stickers and ends with wire strung at neck height along mountain bike trails.

So no. Its not "just a joke." It's never "just a joke." 6/6

Better put in a hashtag #motornormativity #BikeTooter

Start of thread, cos I broke it https://mastodon.scot/@ravenbait/116493359865160383

Road.cc publishes a short article on a driver who has a tally sticker on his vehicle and posts the link to feckbook. Cue eleventy comments about how it's just a joke, cyclists have no sense of humour, and the inevitable escalation into wishing actual harm and violence on people just because they choose to travel on non-motorised (or electrically assisted) two wheels. https://road.cc/news/cycling-live-blog-29-april-2026#comment-927287 I won't link to the feckbook post, because it's a simmering pit of hatred and anger. 1/

Assume that evil black #SUV heading at a pace towards you is piloted by a pilled-up #petrolhead male?

Don't.

Last time I was out on the #eBike, one came leaning out at a hairpin bend at me, so-in-my-face that I could clearly see a large grey-haired, distracted-looking old lady at the steering wheel.

@meganL #MotorNormativity for people talking about transport policy and #CarBrain .

#UrbanCycling for cycling in towns and cities, usually for transport purposes.

#CyclingUK for cycling in the UK (and presumably for what was previously the CTC).

#Coffeeneuring for folks who #AlwaysBeCoffeeneuring or who are taking part in the annual challenge (ride a bike 7 times at least 2 miles and have a beverage).

Have also seen #SustainableTransport , although that's not cycling specific.
