Happiest cities in the world, Copenhagen beats Finland. But serenity remains a benefit for Northern Europeans.

The Happy City Index 2026 rankings have been revealed, which annually rewards cities – unlike the World Happiness Report, which ranks nations: the Danish capital is first – once again – followed by Helsinki, the capital of the happiest country on the planet, and Geneva. Scandinavia and Switzerland still remain in the top ten, with the only exceptions being Tokyo and Munich. Italy is not doing well: outside the Top 50.
