#tonightsviewing: Brazil.

Haven't seen this since I was a kid! I love so many of Gilliam's movies, and it was high time to revisit this.

#tonightsviewing: Return of the Living Dead.

First time seeing it!

A new medical warehouse employee accidentally unleashes contamination that reawakens the dead.

Already some great commentary on commodifcation of the body and the #zombie itself as a form of thought.

#tonightsviewing: The Cursed

A group of Romani people protecting a secret power are murdered in cold blood. Soon after, the threat of a werewolf looms.

Great costuming, interesting (though tired) premise, especially regarding the role of Romani people in this context. The story otherwise feels a bit rushed, with too many characters moving through. Sometimes a bit hard to parse. Scenes also flash through in a way to illustrate the event, rather than delivering any sort of emotional impact.

But never going to say no to #werewolves.

#tonightsviewing: The Pale Blue Eye.

After a cadet turns up murdered, Detective Landor collaborates with a young Edgar Allan Poe to solve the mystery.

When meeting Landor in his quarters and seeing his library, Poe immediately yells "BOOKS!"
I haven't felt so seen by a #horrormovie in a while. 🥲

Very fun watch. Definitely recommend.

#tonightsviewing: Dark City.

In the long shadows of a troubled city and without a memory to his name, a man searches for himself.

One of my earliest introductions to #noir, #scifi, and #horror. Incredible performances and setting across the board.

Labyrinths, madness, and a quest for truth.
Highly recommended.

#tonightsviewing: Night of the Creeps.

A UFO crashes into a romantic night for college kids in the 50s. Jump forward 30 years, and one college student trying to join a fraternity finds an unusual secret.

I already love how much of a love letter this #horror #movie is to Plan 9 from Outer Space. (And the intersection of #UFOs and mythologized #Americana is always a good time, in my book.)

#tonightsviewing: Rent-A-Pal.

A middle-aged man, caring for his disabled mother, struggles with dating and making friends. When he tries a video dating service, he finds a strange tape called Rent-A-Pal.

Incredible emotional portraits and acting. Razor-sharp snapshots of the simulation of intimacy and emotional vampirism.

Highly recommended.

#tonightsviewing: The Company of Wolves.

#horror and #fairytale perfect for fans of #AngelaCarter. (After all, it's based on one of her stories and she worked on the script!)

Bonus Angela Lansbury!
