Anna Lucasta, the 1959 film starring Eartha Kitt & Sammy Davis Jr as well as a stellar supporting cast had an interesting history.
Originally written as a play by Philip Yordan depicting a Polish American family, it was rewritten by American Negro Theater Director Abram Hill + Henry Wagstaff Gribble for an all African-American cast. After the success of this new version the script headed to Hollywood for a film version in 1949 ... but filmed with a white cast it was not a success.

Sandra Hüller

I watched two films this week with wonderful performances by German Actress Sandra Hüller.

In Zone of Interest she plays Helga, wife of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss. In Anatomy of a Fall, a film written specifically for her, she plays a woman suspected of her husbands murder.

“Meryl Streep says you have to love every character whether they are evil or not. I thought about that for a very long time, and while I love and adore Meryl and everything she’s done, I don’t think I agree. I didn’t love Hedwig Höss, and I never will.”

She is certainly one to watch

Last night, I accepted a suggestion from #AmazonPrimeVideo and watched #TheExtraMan .

Though it wasn't highly rated, it got me laughing a bit.

More importantly, most of the characters were usually pretty decent to each other, which is something I like to see.

The cast is pretty good too, and not just #KevinKlein .

#Watching NYAD

The story is amazing...

The #movie itself a generic sports movie in which every scene fits into the Triumphant Sports Genre template, but the two hours just breeze by.
It also helps to have two powerhouses like Annette Bening and Jodie Foster as they carry you through all the clichés.
Since you know how it ends but you might not know the journey to the end Nyad is compelling enough even if it feels like you're hitting screenplay beats (not...the SHARK!).
A good movie of an incredible accomplishment. Diana Nyad swims 100 miles while we sit on our couch and watch it on Netflix.

A middle-aged man, caring for his disabled mother, struggles with dating and making friends. When he tries a video dating service, he finds a strange tape called Rent-A-Pal.

Incredible emotional portraits and acting. Razor-sharp snapshots of the simulation of intimacy and emotional vampirism.

Highly recommended.
