This little
#mountain bungalow's
#roof has weathered decades of
#Appalachian seasons. 🌧️🍂 The chimney still stands proudly, but it and the roof itself tells a story of age and wear, every patch and shingle holding years of history. Protecting and covering generations of previous families from the elements.
Three years ago, inspectors rated the roof a 2 out of 10 for stability and condition. We bought the bungalow with this roof and hoping to make it until next Spring. No can do. The new addition we built from an existing open porch has exposed the deep dark secret of this roof: leaks. The chimney, the dormer, and the shingles are all coming down.
Next week, we turn the page (great song by Bob Seger). A new chapter begins with a fresh navy blue tin roof which is a nod to the Blue Ridge Mountains and the USMC. It will be a crown as strong as the mountains that surround it. 💙 The deep blue will shine against the sky, echo the ridges in the distance, and carry this bungalow forward for decades more because, usually, a tin roof doesn't need replaced.
I can not wait until I hear the sound of rain on the tin, the gleam of sunlight on new metal, and the peace of knowing the leaks are fixed. 🏡✨
