Spending part of new year’s eve testing preamps for my shortwave transceiver project, as one does of course. Here the ERA-3SM is providing its specified 22dB of gain. Give or take some cable losses and my janky setup. All verified using my DYI HP RF power sensor head. Very happy with how both of them perform!
For those who like their tech to be recycled, both from a "passing it on" and an "obtaining it" point of view, then you can do both at the excellent Dunstable Downs Radio Rally at Stockwood Park, Luton, LU1 5LS (Enter via Farley Hill) on Sunday 30th June. Low cost entry.

I've restored, repaired and calibrated this neglected Feedback Electronics #WattMeter from the 1980s. It looked like it had been left in someone's back yard for years, though internally as clean as a whistle.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... The Fantastic "New" Microtest 80. A lovely Italian designed miniature pocket analogue multimeter of the mid 1970s.
I had to fix the sticking needle, and now works perfectly.

Some carnage it was indeed! Ended up replacing all ICs except the main TMS9914. A wonder it survived. The other chips were mostly a dead short to ground. No surprise the supply rail was a little scorched. I really wonder what happened here and what became of the poor instrument is was originally installed in…
Now at least it got a new life and my 8590A spectrum analyzer is happily communicating with the outside world!

I bought an analogue panel meter recently that reads up to 60V DC full scale deflection. These are super handy for monitoring the supply rails in my #strowger #telephoneExchanges
What I love about this one is the tiny wee screw base lamps it uses for the scale illumination!
So smol!
