You need more than sleep to prevent burnout. Get all 7 types of rest: Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith's excellent book on rest describes the 7 we need: 1) Physical Rest Signs you need it: ↳You lack physical energy ↳You're sore or in pain ↳You get sick more often How to get it: (There's passive AND active rest, so sleep by itself doesn't even get you 1 full type of rest) ↳Passive: Develop a sleep routine, get at least 7 hours a night, nap as needed ↳Active: Do yoga, breathe deeply, get a massage 2) Mental Rest Signs you need it: ↳You lack mental energy ↳Your brain feels foggy ↳You've been snapping at people or getting easily irritated How to get it: ↳Limit distractions and do deep work ↳Listen to soothing music ↳Practice meditation 3) Emotional Rest Signs you need it: ↳You're feeling anxious or worrying excessively ↳You're overly insecure or doubting yourself ↳You're overwhelmed by others' problems How to get it: ↳Stop comparing your own life to others' lives ↳Quit spending time with toxic people ↳Try therapy 4) Social Rest As Dr. Dalton-Smith says, this one can be counterintuitive: It "may sound like a cry for solitude, but it is actually the opposite."
