Young crocus creeps up from the brown
to write the first bright lines of spring,
cast off last shreds of decay’s clinging gown —
purple poetess breaks free from wintering.

It’s a wonderful time of year to be a crocus! Chilly enough to ensure you have the garden all to yourself, but warm and sunny enough to joyfully open the flowers every day.
