*If* what the "AI" [1] grifters say in their sales pitches were true [2], and their LLMs are good at writing prose, summarizing other text, and writing code, then it follows that you should be able to do this:

"<LLM-agent>, write an LLM prompt text that will cause a code-generating LLM to create a Gmail clone, including server-side code and client-side user interface."

Then feed that to CopyLot or whatever, and out pops a Gmail clone.

[1] Bovine excretory corollary to Sturgeon's Law: if an article about "AI" doesn't use scare quotes on (at minimum) the first use of the term, it is guaranteed grifter salesbabble, not actual human thought. If scare quotes *are* properly used, then it's only 90% likely to be grifter #salesbabble.

[2] It isn't.

#HubSpot is using the same advertising tactic that Scientology used for #Dianetics in computer magazines back in the 1980s, long-since debunked.

'Did you know that your company is using only 2% of its data?'

Yes, HubSpot.

That's because the other 98% follows the fifth root of Sturgeon's Law.

It is quoted reply chains in LookOut, signatures, memes in corporate chats, inapplicable all-employees messages, accidental replies-to-list, high resolution Zoom/Teams calls with fake backgrounds, databases in spreadsheets, random characters to satisfy forced comment fields, test data in production, and so on.

The 2% is the good stuff that remains after properly throwing the crap out.

AI won’t kill literature, it’ll just colonise the middle ground where most writing lives. From calligraphy to photography to synthesisers, every “threat” to the arts created more art. The monasteries will remain.

#Truth ~ My preferences in #sff are so drastically different than mass market tastes that it makes being a commercial fiction #Writer difficult.

3 choices: find the niche of people who enjoy what I like; learn to cynically 'write to spec' and sling out (what I would call) garbage—as per #SturgeonsLaw ...or find some kind of happy medium.

I sometimes find works in the third category ("Circe" by Madeline Miller, from 7 years ago, was both popular and outstanding) but it's like chasing Unicorns.

PSA: If you don't think that 90% of everything is crap, then you need to work on developing your taste and judgement.

Ironically watching trash TV is unironically trashy.

TFW you get to mention #SturgeonsLaw on the work chat along with your personal corollaries:

a) Your 10% and my 10% may not overlap, and (possibly most importantly)
b) That’s OK.

Today is a good day to recognize the talents of creators at every level of the production of the media you love. The editors, artists, production designers, actors, directors, producers and many others worked very hard to produce it. And you loved it.

It reached you across a now unimaginable divide to change you for the better even in some small way.

You are guilty of enjoying art.

Art is human. Humans are flawed, broken, self deluded monsters. Try and enjoy art anyway.

The fracturing, flattening, and enshittifying of our media landscape has taken the 10% of everything that isn't "crap"* and hid it behind endless paywalls and IP strategery, so as to make it impossible to access.

Result: The biggest "entertainment desert" I have personally witnessed in my lifetime. It's Springsteen's "57 channels" on steroids.

2025: Bleak on Bleak.
