moonlight slicing the night
with its serrated edge
and shadows, like teeth
gnawing at the stillness
leaving self to stare at the horizon of darkness
trapped in a frail and fragile skin
cowering in aloneness
until dawn bleeds new lights

These lofty ideals
I use to carry
in my attitude
unapologetically
now lie in the ruins
of this gray crime scene...

Crumbled dreams
chipped away
by decades
of steady disappointments...

Replaced

of current bitter indifference...

Now I'm just another
cynical commentator
blasting a society
that failed me
though in reality
beneath my wrecked facade
I know full well

On my walk, I brush #serrated edges of beech leaves. Their touch feels soft on my hands. A gentle reminder that, if we zoom in close enough, we'll always find the edges. Maybe, sometimes, we have to zoom out far enough to realise how smooth their touch can be.
