Well that...was emotionally draining. I ended up voting in favor, but there is still a good chance we'll go on strike.
In line to vote on the contract. Sounds like raises are closer to what the Library offered than what the Union asked for, but scales are also going up? I thought we were just voting, but it might be talking about it too. That's good, as I dropped the ball reading it. >.>
Well, it's official. With 80% of the union workers at my library system voting, a strike was approved with a mandate of 92%.
If the Library doesn't budge, I'll be on the picket July 19.

There's actually a truck parked in our lot with a banner on it giving our CEO's wages and calling for a correction in the pay gap.
She makes 9 times more than me. Which isn't like, private sector, "makes me want to build a guillotine" ludicrous, but still.
As a coworker put it, she might actually earn that money, but there are a lot of others in admin that make a lot whom I'm not sure what the eff they do.

So the library has "declared an impasse" and called for a third party moderator. The union has to abide. Though in 45 days if the union feels it, it can contact the state and warn of a strike. It will also ask for a strike vote before or after that.
I wonder if the library drug their feet so a strike would be during the height of summer when people have time off and it's really hot and humid.

Reading through my Union's initial list of demands. I like to think I contributed to this one:
"Add language requiring the Library to inform the Union whenever Artificial Intelligence or or related automation technology is implemented in a way that could impact BU members, and requiring the Library to bargain the effects of any change."
Huh. This is pretty cool. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke to my union back in the day.

Oh, did that piss off his friends who still got check in hand. He got paid and they couldn't cross the picket to get theirs.
We watched the strike unfold in Canada on our 8" B&W tv. It was over by the time we got home.
Solidarity with the #Teamsters, and all others in the sphere of influence. Its heartening to see y'all back in the game.
