@emaytch just shared this funny webcomic:

Doing Nothing by Horse C.

And it reminded if something that just happened. I was walking to my break and a copy of Evil Dead caught my eye. It turns out it's been remastered.

Anyway, I picked it up to figure that out and was like, "this is a Blockbuster case." Sure as shit, I open it up and it is.

If you collect DVDs and need new cases and find a box of new old stock, get them if they're reasonable. The cases are very sturdy and have a matte finish on the clear plastic. Comparing them to the retail ones that have so little heft, they feel like the companies resent having to make a case.

They're unmistakable.

NOTHING DOING

a comic about hating your job and loving your friends

...Always a good sign when you sit down back from your break, ready to work again. Going to take a drink of water before putting your mask back on and a guy is coughing so hard that you ditch that plan and just mask up.

Whee.

...There is a school bus parked in front of our doors. I am now expecting it to get loud.

Just interacted with a patron over the phone that I've had a bunch over the years. I've always felt like he wanted an exceptional amount of detail out of us. Usually for music, but sometimes like, for restaurant menus. Well, he just mentioned to me tonight that he's blind.

That makes a lot more sense. He's asking me to read it because he can't.

Now I feel bad for letting my annoyance creep into my voice. Which I suppose I should examine on myself why I'm annoyed at people who want a ton of information when it's not due to a disability.

I'm also going to request an album by the band he had me looking up, so I shouldn't be too hard on him for that either.

Hmm.

Also, I wonder if I should suggest the Ohio Library for the Blind and Print Disabled. On one hand, it's a great service, (my great uncle really liked it,) but on the other, he probably gets it from every librarian he interacts with that learns he's blind.

So apparently the Department of State as halted the ability for non-profit libraries to do passport applications:

This doesn't affect my system as we're a governmental library, not a non-profit, but I know it's one of our biggest sources of income. So this is going to adversely affect a lot of libraries. Also going to put higher strain on the Post Office now that they'll be getting a lot more people coming in for applications.

Ugh.

US State Department halts passport services at nonprofit libraries

The State Department has ordered nonprofit public libraries to stop taking passport applications, cutting off a popular local service. In late fall, the agency started sending cease and desist orders, which take effect on Feb. 13. It says these libraries cannot collect and keep passport processing fees under federal rules. Librarians say the service has worked for years and residents still call every day. Members of Congress from several states pushed back in a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They call the change abrupt. Pennsylvania members of Congress have proposed a bill that keeps eligible nonprofit libraries in the program.

Looks like Worldcat is getting shittier. I clicked on "Show more information" and it's demanding an account.

Lovely.

The Children's area has scavenger hunts for the kids. The rule is that it's "only on the green carpet." J has green carpet, whereas adult is blue and teen is blue/black. A little boy with a cute baseball t-shirt started wandering into adult (they are pulled by our water fixture,) and his mom said something like, "they're only on the green carpet, come back here." and he came back, but still looking in Adult, said, "they're a lot of blue!"

And there is. Adult, (and the empty spaces between,) is a big area.

I thought it was cute.

This is about what I think of our marketing department whenever the branch asks for something.

Problem with denying making us shit is now I'm just mimicking their style, which is taking work away from them. Considering that I don't know how they have enough to do for the system as a whole, that's a problem.

I'm sure they're behaving like that because of what the top brass told them to do, but still.

I don't know what's more interesting. How many problems with our public computers I blame on Microsoft and Adobe, or that I'm probably right.

Musings between me and a coworker.

Our fliers in other languages really should have an indication as to what language they are in English somewhere on them. A bunch I can guess, but I don't want to piss off a Ukrainian handing them a Russian flier or vica versa. To use an improper turn of phrase, Cyrillic is all Greek to me.
