Meta progression in roguelites was fun for a while, but it's starting to feel unrewarding

For a while, meta progression felt like a clever way to keep games fresh. You’d unlock new gear, perks, or passive bonuses between runs, and that s…

I've been playing #FullMetalFuries, a co-op beat'em up rpg for #NintendoSwitch developed by the same people who did #RogueLegacy

It's actually amazing, it feels like #CastleCrashers but much more well balanced and with an emphasis on making everyone feel essential for victory. Good stuff.

This year I decided I wanted to try and knock a few games off my backlog.

It wasn't particularly successful, but I did get a few pretty great games finished with the help of my Legion Go.

I don't really do Games of the Year because I generally don't play enough of the big games at the time they come out to have that sort of recency to make a decision.

I do have a favourite game I played - but it wasn't one that released this year - or even this decade! Disco Elysium was such a great journey, with a lovely mix of very cool graphics, gameplay loop, and a bat shit crazy story.

Honourable mentions to Rogue Legacy, which I played a lot of way back in the PS Vita era but never got around to finishing until this year, and to Arcade Paradise which was a very cool experience.

I'm surprised I played Cricket 24 as much as I did but the numbers don't lie 😅

I know it's not *actually* open sourced, but the release of the #RogueLegacy source code is very cool nonetheless.

I played so much of this on my #PSVita back in the day. When I picked up my #LenovoLegionGo, I downloaded it for the nostalgia, and ended up actually finishing it!

Creators of the hit indie title (and possible originators of the 'rogue-lite' moniker) Rogue Legacy have release the game's source code!

It will be interesting to see how many lessons in procgen gaming have come around since 2013. Likely a valuable learning tool for #gamedev

Finally managed to kill Herodotus last night with a Paladin with Axe. They were defeated by Johannes, though, but were avenged by a nostalgic Barbarian King with Nerdy Glasses and Dagger who took out Johannes and the Fountain of Youth.
