I used Moxie Pest Control. When I was laid off, it was one of the services I intended pause, or to temporarily cancel if they didn't have a service pause. Moxie told me there is no pause, so I opted to cancel, then resubscribe when I was employed.

A month later they sent an email stating if I did not confirm the cancellation that my November service would be scheduled. I replied my displeasure with that email and noted a firm confirmation of cancellation and a request not to sour the relationship.

Today I got a reminder for my scheduled service.

I called and was greeted by their new phone based AI chatbot.

I requested a person and it insisted it should help me. So I told it I wanted cancellation for an account that was supposed to already be cancelled.

I informed the rep of the situation, that I initially planned to return once I was employed again, and that this whole experience convinced me I don't want to see their business at my home again. He gave his nonsense, of course. Then offered a free service.

I hate repeating myself. I insisted I never want to see them here again.

Because it's a sales tactic to keep the account open. You might think it's stupid to reject a free service, but it's specifically designed to keep the account open.

At the end I explained their use of an AI chatbot on the phones was also a problem for me. "I don't like talking to AI chatbots."

Louis Rossmann is currently on a crusade for consumer rights, among which includes right to cancel. Moxie just placed themselves in the same position as gyms, basically. Cancellation of service should NEVER be more difficult than it is to sign up.

So it looks like I'll be looking for a new pest control later.

If starting a subscription is as simple as a click of a button, so should canceling it.
