In this study, Shuo Zhang et al. used the #StackedSpeciesDistributionModel (SSDM) to predict the spatiotemporal patterns of global #TaxusL. distribution and driving mechanism for the first time.

Fossil fuels, Marine heatwaves and Runoff: The bloom pulsates

"Algal blooms are complex, but the prevailing theory is that the 2022-23 floods washed nutrients down the Murray-Darling Basin system and out to sea. A marine heatwave and an “upwelling” of nutrients from the bottom of the ocean combined to create the perfect conditions for Karenia mikimotoi to flourish."

Plant–soil interactions during the native and exotic range expansion of an annual plant

Abstract. Range expansions, whether they are biological invasions or climate change-mediated range shifts, may have profound ecological and evolutionary co

"Don’t get the wrong idea: #RoseateSpoonbills aren’t failing. Their numbers are better in Florida than they’ve been in decades. They’re just not nesting in Florida Bay, the Everglades’ southernmost point, anymore. The species is undergoing a #RangeShift. "

The Flight of the Spoonbills Holds Lessons for a Changing Everglades—and World

As sea-level rise transforms South Florida’s fringe of wetlands into open ocean, Roseate Spoonbills are moving north. Land managers are following their lead, restoring the ecosystem with an eye for...

Highly important paper about projected changes in marine biodiversity under different climate scenarios. Based on information on >33000 species and scenarios for 7 environmental factors, Doro Hodapp and colleagues show that we need to expect massive turnover characterized by reductions in suitable habitat size and separation into smaller sub-areas.

Tree seedling distributions can indicate early stages of climate-induced tree migrations along elevational climatic gradients. Canopy gaps can facilitate these range shifts for some species but not for others as shown by Jordon Tourville, a PhD candidate in our group defending his dissertation this coming week (now also a post-doc at Appalachian Mountain Club). Congrats on a very nice paper, Jordon!
