SCENE: INTERIOR, HOLLYWOOD PRODUCTION OFFICE, RUN-DOWN. MONDAY MORNING.

Executive Assistant: Hey, Brett?

Director: Morning, Jennifer. What have you got for me?

EA: Well, we have the opening weekend numbers.

D: And?

EA: They're ... mixed. There's some bright spots overseas. Australia did fifty.

D: Fifty million?

EA: Uh, no. Fifty. Fifty tickets.

D: All weekend? The whole country?

EA: Ya. I know.

D: You said there were some bright spots, though?

EA: That was a bright spot. It was worse elsewhere.

D: How can it be worse than 50 tickets for a whole country?

EA: Well, some open-source intelligence type people on the 'net proved that almost every single ticket sold in the UK was to a movie reviewer, because we wouldn't give them advanced access to it.

D: "Almost"? So at least a few regular folks bought tickets?

EA: ... maybe. Those were tickets where no-one showed at the theatre, so they couldn't determine if it was film critics or not.

D: Damn. How were the reviews?

EA: Uh, let's just say "not good" and leave it at that for a bit.

D: ... Okay. Well, how about here at home? Surely we sold some tickets here, at least in MAGA states? What's the news here in the good ol' USA?

EA: The Director's Guild took out a hit on you.

“He jumped into his car and drove the 20 minutes to another mansion — this one owned by the billionaire Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s Middle East peace envoy.” - Wow.. impressive. Did anyone witness him jumping? Was it like a little hop or a big leap?

Trained in New York City real estate, the president’s son-in-law had a single goal: Get to a yes first, and hash out the details later. “It’s just different being deal guys — just a different sport,” he said.

NYE 2023 is on a unique date that occurs once every 100 years: Here's what 12/31/23 means.

The numerical sequence that makes up the last date of the year, 12/31/23, suggests that 2024 will ask us to fully embrace all the change that lies ahead.

CNBC has the distinction of being one of the first news outlets I'm kicking off of my Flipboard.

Why?

The stupid puff piece that I'm linking to below. I knew it was going to be a puff piece. I clicked on the headline, and, yep, it was a puff piece.

"Laundry pros on Poplin can earn up to $6,000 per month, according to the site."

Yep, I'm sure that this is a figure that the common man can expect. (I'm being sarcastic.)

In reality, Poplin might have a few folks looking at those earnings, but they like to trumpet it because poor sods will sign up to try to get that amount of money.

Pranks, Parties and Politics: Ron DeSantis’s Year as a Schoolteacher

At a private school 20 years ago, the future Florida governor was a popular history teacher and coach. But some students were taken aback by his comments on the Civil War and abortion.

Nancy's disabled son and his experiences have changed her perspective. I understand it is a subject that benefits from personal experience. But perhaps the story should have focused a bit more on what she could have been doing differently to help promote stories on disabilities during her lengthy career at the top of the important industry?
