Dan Little's discussion of Till Hilmar's book Deserved struck a chord with me, given that one of Hilmar's emphases is on interviews in the former GDR (where I lived during much of my time in Germany in the 1990s).
Little isolates two primary contributions to "Ossi" social dislocation. One is the feeling that success in capitalism is due to relationships rather than merit. The other is the erosion of trust in social institutions.
Worth reading!

Artist Behind Controversial MLK Sculpture Responds To Critics | Amanpour and Company

Heated debate has surrounded a new monument commemorating #MartinLutherKing Jr. and his wife #CorettaScottKing. Unveiled in Boston earlier this month, #TheEmbrace sparked backlash and even mockery. Now, artist #HankWillisThomas is speaking out about his work, alongside the Rev. Liz Walker of #EmbraceBoston, the organization that funded the project. #MichelMartin

Glad it wasn't the view of the organizers!
This really fascinating from a #PublicMemory perspective:

“We wanted to get away from this great person version of statues and we wanted people to imagine that those are their arms, those are the arms of someone who has embraced them, those are the arms of someone that they want to embrace, they have embraced," Paris Jeffries said. "It’s a memorial to honor the Kings and those other leaders, but it’s also a memorial for all of us."

In a end-of-year Times of Israel retrospective about moving articles is a story about efforts at remembrance in Gdańsk by Polish poet Grzegorz Kwiatkowski.

"During World War II, Granary Island in the Polish port city of Gdansk was the site of a Jewish ghetto...."

The forgotten ghetto in the heart of Gdansk

Residents of this Polish city and tourists who visit it should know about the hell that some people inflicted on other people in this place during World War II

Excited to be joining #SearchlightArchive's Time and Emotion workshop this December! I'll be discussing the role of #Malaysia's #farright in #popularhistory making and its consequences for #publicmemory.

My contribution will be based on notes and observations from 2017-present, and my intent is to push the discursive frontiers of far-right research to include perspectives from beyond the 'West' i.e. #Malaysia, #Singapore and #SoutheastAsia. Looking forward   !!

Introduction: I’m a Ph.D. student at Indiana University-Bloomington. My research deals with local television (USA, 1945-1974) and questions of #politicaleconomy, #geography, #culturallandscape, #publicmemory. Also included in that are #television, #mediahistory, #mediastudies and #commodon. 🤠 📺️

@RLCaputi I see what you mean now. I went to an exhibit at the #PeabodyEssexMuseum that did a wonderful job with making their digital archives integral to the exhibit.

Another site whose #PublicMemory which I've written on is in #Gdańsk, the #EuropeanSolidarityCenter, which has an interactive design and architecture, featuring visitor interpretation of the artifacts and exhibits. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/10570314.2022.2087886?journalCode=rwjc20

How the European Solidarity Center Makes Time Out of Space

The European Solidarity Center (ECS) makes time out of space. Public memory, essential to the birth of Solidarność, and as created anew here, is a constellation of recursively moving time points. E...

My #introduction:

My name is Lucy Burgchardt, and I am a #rhetoric and #publicmemory #scholar. Sometimes, I like to research #nationalparks

Other times, I get wild and research #presidentialrhetoric

Truthfully, though, I spend most of my time #teaching

It’s nice to be here!
