A lot of games that have issues with alt-tabbing in Linux (looking at you Skyrim, especially #modded #Skyrim) will actually work the way you want it to if you enable Wine's virtual desktop mode.
It's a teeny, tiny graphical overhead but it makes stuff that want to behave like hard fullscreen games still act like borderless windowed mode instead.

Easiest way to enable it for #steam games is to use #protontricks. Quick guide in the next toot.

You will need to install protontricks. How to do that on your distro is an excercise for the reader.

i found a game (Lichdom: Battlemage 2014) that doesn't run on linux with proton by default

The only reason I got suspisicous was that there was no github link on the page, despite mentioning it over and over again and sure enough, the github page has a warning:

Had to jump through a few hoops to get Batman Arkham Asylum running on my Steam Deck, but now it's running great!

I'm very thankful for ProtonDB. It's a wonderful website full of useful community sourced fixes to try. I ended up using Protontricks to install some DLL files and Proton-GE and I got it running at max settings.

Thus begins my Arkham series replay that'll culminate with me finally playing Arkham Knight for the first time.

Just tried #godofwar on Steam with #protondb compatibility mode on #Linux #UniversalBlueAurora , which seems to run fine, apart from audio cutting out for a second every now and again. No doubt there will be some fix for this.

I don’t know anything about #protontricks or any other tweaks, but I have a feeling that there’s still some additional performance improvements to be had.
